It can't be long before they unveil the new Vibe. I've heard that some of the pilot vehicles that we just built are going to "shows". Is there a big Auto Show coming up? Detroit? LA?

And they're still gonna call it an oh-nine? Frankly, I'm concerned about this. Remember, this was originally supposed to be upgraded in 2008, meaning you'd see it late 2007. Unless Pontiac is bucking the trend of releasing model years early, this would seem to indicate that some kinks are still being worked out.

As far as why, I don't know. You have to remember the Vibe is holding hands with Corolla. I'm sure there have been some negotiations between GM and TMC regarding build and release dates.
The new Corolla was supposed to be an '08, but TMC sent it back for rework because they thought it was too stodgy to compete with the '07+ Civic.Who knows what it'll look like, as I don't think Toyota does sexy very well. Anyway, because of that, the Vibe is necessarily also six months late.I do not like the way the roof slopes in the rear on the edmunds vehicle. I was hoping for something a little bigger and perhaps a few inches longer, more of a wagon than a hatch. It does not look like that's gonna be it.... I'll be looking for a good rebate and may buy one of the last '08s.The Vibe is a good car, but the pricing is up there, and all they want to do in rebates is $1k? I think a Matrix would be cheaper at this point, which is plain ridiculous.GM is a very strange company.-Mathias

I'm not following.Just speculation, but should be mid to late Jan. First production units should roll off the line January 7th or so. Just an guesstimate there, nothing official. Remember this is a major model change. Just about everyone plantwide who has anything to do with the Vibe or Corolla being built, painted, driven, shipped, cleaned, qc'd, etc (yes, many hundreds of people) have to be re-trained. Ever heard of not being able to teach an old dog new tricks??? Ha ha, ok I shouldn't say that. Most people are great and very willing to learn, others . . . well, I won't go there. So, depending on how well we all learn to do our 'new' jobs, how well all the new equipment behaves and how well our existing and new suppliers do at getting us quality parts to build quality vehicles will depend on when they hit dealers.

Official info and pics from GM I would guess closer to the end of the year. LA Auto Show maybe in mid-November. Just a complete guess there. As I said before, I can speculate on things like that as much as anyone else. All that is up to corporate marketing which is way above and beyond anything we do at NUMMI. All we do is make them. On the subject of marketing, hopefully GM decides to market this new model better than the current one and there will be a whole lot more of them on the road.

all that info is great and we are all waiting patiently to see what they are like when the come out, but a big question is if NUMMI has made any changes to deal with the common girpe about crappy Vibe paint.

I'm not a paint expert. I don't know if the issues are material or method related (or both maybe). But no huge changes in this area. Anyone know if quality has improved in vehicles produced in '07? Not '07 model year, but actually produced this year. The change actually took place in the later part of last year, but was used on-and-off for a while until all kinks got worked out of the system.
