I saw allot of you all paint the dash triming and i would aalso like to do that with my vibe but i have no idea what kind of paint to use???? How to pint them as well?????
just like anything, to get a good paint job and to help the paint adhere, SAND. lots and lots of sanding! primer, sand some more, primer, sand more, keep doing it... try to spray it with some paint and see if it reacts. if it does, sand it down and keep at it til the paint doesn't react anymore. make sure you use a good clear coat as well.you can try Krylon Plasticoat, but I found it was too soft and scratched easily. good luck!
google, wet sanding. do TONS of that to get a super smooth almost glossy wet looking finish. If its plastice use what hope said above or plastic model paint. Other paints will make it turn out like crap...iv been there :s. and then clear coat it with a wet sanding too.
I was going to do something like this. If you have some extra money go to a junk yard or someone on here was parting out vibes... and get extra dash pieces to do the work on. then you have a extra set just in case or if you go back to stock!
hahah dude I screw up all my projects the first time. So yeah every part i have that gets modded has a back up. Like my headers and throttle body. I bought extra ones to get ported out so i have a stock one for back up.
yep, the more modded/personalized your car is, the harder it is for resale later. took the dealer over 6 mos to sell my 03 VGT because it was too personalized. *shrug* i thought it was awesome! LOL but then i'm the one who "personaized" it in the first place.but i have kept all my stock parts for the LGT except the front brakes and rotors. everything else i've kept in case i need to go back to stock and sell the car.
I haven't painted a dash since my Civic, the key is not to go overboard, just enough for an accent. Here is an overview:1) Remove all pieces to be painted from the dash, and wash them with some soap and water to clean them up. 2) Get some 1000 and 2000 grit wet sandpaper and wetsand starting with the 1000 and then the 20000 to prep. You do not need to be harsh, just enough to scuff up the plastic so the paint adhere's better.3) Wipe the pieces clean with a wet rag and maybe some paint thinner to clean off.4) Wipe dry and let air dry Completely.5) Lay the pieces down on newspaper and do slow even coats. You will not make full coverage on the first coat, most likely by the second. One big problem people get into is they spray and spray and spray until the whole piece is covered in one shot. This causes overspray and drips and runs and overly thick layers. Nice easy and slow.6) Wait 10-15 minutes between coats and I usually do 4-5 light coats. 7) Spray 1-2 quick coats of clearcoat to protect the paint from scratching, knicks, etc. Depending on how glossy you want it get the right clearcoat to match.8) Allow to dry thoroughly for a few hours then install. I wouldn't recommend using your heat or A/C for a day just to make sure the paint dries properly. 9) Final products: Honda sold an overlay vinyl kit for like $160 for this, but I did it for a whopping $10.2002 Honda Civic EX CoupeBeforeAfter1994 Saturn SL1
on the second day i had the vibe, i had the interior torn apart and painted. then a few months later i installed a leather katzkins kit and the red didn't match the paint. ended up having a body shop repaint them all, including baking the parts so it was nice and glossy.
