Valve body info for automatic

Post by blue_can »

Hi everyone - new to the forum having purchased an 07 Vibe about 2 weeks ago. I usually do most of my own repairs including fixing transmissions. Being a new car I don't expect to have to do anything for quite a while especially being under warranty. However, I ordered the factory manuals and also the transmission rebuild manual for the A246E from Toyota for reference. Neither book has any info on the hydraulic circuits or the valve body for the trans. I do have an older GM transmission book which has valve body service info for the A240E. Not sure if this can be used for the A246E although I can see that the throttle valve has been replaced by EPC.Any idea if this info exists anywhere.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the Toyota manual for the A246E is for the Matrix which is the same transmission as in the Vibe. I've heard that compared to GM manuals Toyota manuals are not very well written - looking at the manual I can see why....

The A240 I don't think would be the same, the Engines and Tranny's and frames for that matter (an interiors except the radios after 05) are all Toyota.

I’m not a big expert on Toyota transmissions but from what I can gather the A240 series of transmissions use a very similar internal architecture (3 speed Simpson planetary – ie common sun gear) along with a separate underdrive planet set for generating OD. From what I can see the valve body for the A240E transmission looks almost identical to the A246E transmission. It seems like only the throttle valve linkage has been replaced by a pressure control solenoid so I’m guessing that this series of transmissions are very similar with some small changes.Anyway I’m hoping to learn useful info for my new car from this forum
