what happens when you get new tires?

Post by mathteacher'04vibe »

You get a puncture in them of course. Less than three weeks on the new wheels and tires and I had some weird projectile pierce the left rear. I went to remove the object with needle nose pliers and it (looked like PVC pipe) broke twice. I plugged it and she's holding (I know, don't put a plugged tire on the front; I should have patched it). I had to do a quick fix since I was about 50 miles from home and did not want to a) move my subs out of the way and dig for the spare and b) drive 50 miles home on the spare with 3 people and a ton of fishing gear in the car. When I put the $150 ea Zrated Kumhos on my Camaro, I had three holes in the same tire the first week

You didn't get Road Hazard coverage when you bought them? I have the same kind of luck as you, which is why I buy the extra protection. Call the place you got the tires from, Kelly may have road hazard built into the price.

What does road hazard cover in this situation - a repairable flat?

I'm not a big fan of extended warranties in general, but I always buy the road hazard. Have had a number of flats repaired over the years and a couple of tire replacements when damaged.

In his situation, he would have gotten it fixed free or a brand new tire.

When we got a repairable flat on the Vibe the tire place fixed it for free without any road hazard warranty and we hadn't even bought the tire there (it was still original equipment on the car). Of course I'm likely to go to that place first when I need new tires eventually so they'll probably get some $s then.

I bought tires recently from Discount Tire Direct, bought the Road Hazard Protection it was like 10.30$ per tire and if i EVER have ANYHING go wrong, i'll get a replacement in the mail... all i have to do is wait for it to come... most things can be plugged though... Well, except for my last run in with a nail.... it punctured the tire right where the sidewall and tread meet, it went in strainght and every time it hit the ground, it jabbed another hole in the BEAD of the tire... there was like 10-15 holes in the BEAD on that one...

I worked at a truck & auto repair center for a few years and plugged a ton of tires--even semi tires at the driver's request. It should be fine. The tire shop I purchased my wheels and tires from is about 30 miles from home and was 100 miles from where I noticed it going down. I usually fix the tires myself. Sublimewind--the hole in the sidewall is no fun. They can be plugged on ATVs but not cars. I once had a slice in my Camaro's tire that went in at a 45 degree angle and was non-reparable--even with a semi tire patch/plug combo. I guess flats are $h*&--they happen.

I feel your pain. A few weeks ago I got a big screw stuck in my back tire. That ticked me off. Fortunately, it ended up not going all the way through the tire. I was so happy!
