Indoor pics (now working) of painted brake calipers

Post by Lancer »

I did this last week and I think it turned out pretty nice. I was cutting an inch off of the end of my CAI with a Sawz-All and decided to paint the calipers while I had the wheel off. I didn't have large enough tools to take the calipers off so I masked everything off instead. I also sprayed paint into a cup and brushed on the first 4 coats then sprayed on 4 more coats to make it even and glossy. I only got some paint on the top of the disk that can be sanded off easily. the whole project took a while with all the coats you have to put on. for me it took a total of 6 hours of painting a coat and let it dry for a while and applying another coat. I'll update this post in the next day or so with better outside pics.

Lancer, you did a fine job on your calipers. What type of paint did you use?

You'll only need paint, and for the time.. it it yours to find it.For 1 coat, it took me about 20-25 mins, to remove and put back the the 4 wheels an paint calipers/drums

I did mine outside at one of our fire stations using brake caliper paint from Walmart ($4). After painting my engine cover in my basement, it left a lot of red 'dust' everywhere. So I did the brakes outside to blow any overspray and dust away from the car. I also let the sun dry it a little faster. In bewteen coats I just opened up my hood to the road and watched the passer's-by stair at the engine. Showing off a little i guess.
