I'm about ready to do my next oil change . I have previously used Mobil Clean 5000 5W-20 with a Purolator oil filter. 53K miles and no problems. I have seen postings where members use the oil filter for the 2ZZ on a 1ZZ with good results. My question is are there any other filters that are bigger yet would still fit on the 1ZZ engine? I'm especially interested in larger sizes of K&N or Mobil 1 filters. Any help would be appreciated.

I use Amsoil's EAO10, which is the GT size and run it thru 2 oil changes before installing a new one.My average oil change is 4-5K miles twice a year and use Pennzoil Platnum.
That Toga oil filter is awesome, but 90 bucks, eeeek!P.S. I see no reason for an oversized filter if you do regular oil changes. If it was of any benefit for the engine, I'm sure the manufacturer would be doing it.

My reason for using an oversize filter is for extended OCIs. A bigger filter with more filter media will perform for a longer period of time. My average for a 5000mi oil change is about every two months. I'm considering using Mobil Clean 7500 in conjunction with an oversize filter. That TOGA filter would appear to be able to transfer to multiple vehicles.

The difference in filter size is insignificant since the 2zz filter is only a half inch or less longer than the 1zz filter. If you really want increased filter capacity, install a remote filter mount that has dual filters. This mount holds two big filters. Zeta,I don't think there is that much difference in size from the 1zz to the 2zz. I do see the purolator's having 2 different sizes but I think even something like Mobil one and K&N Filters are both the same for both engine versions.What I do, and it was originally solely by accident, is use a totally larger filter than even for the 2zz. The K&N HP-1003 or the Mobil One M-103 is what should go in the Vibes but when I first started to change the oil on my Vibe I bought a Fram PH 3614 because I mistakenly read it was the right size. It should have been the 4967. The size was majorly different from the original to the Fram. It just fit on the plate where the gasket seals and I kept a close eye on it till I did my next change. No problems at allLater, I kept reading how bad Fram filters were so I tried a cross-reference and came up with the M1-M102 and the K&N HP-1002. Again, both were not for either Vibe engines, they had the same thread gap though and were both slightly wider and a bit longer. I've been using the K&N Filter ever since with no problems what so ever.Now, I'm assuming that the mounting plate that the filter gasket seals to is the same on both 1zz and 2zz engines when suggesting this. I don't know this for sure though so double check that if you do decided to up-size the filter this way.Dave
Even at a 7000mi change, unless your driving your vibe on a track everyday ,it's not likely that your sludging up even a factory stock filter enough to worry about it... Now if you were running SC/TC you might be on to something, but it's not a big issue with a "normal" DD like a vibe... BUT, if you really wanna be (removed) about it djb383 gave you the BEST option and you get extra oil capacity as well...
I can't remember for sure but I believe the Purolator PL20195 fits great or cross to any equivalent. These are huge and I think that this and the Motorcraft version were what I used to use. Be carefull with experiments. Look at the thread, thread pitch and relief valve settings when comparing. OD only needs to be close on Vibes though gaskets can vary. You can use an extremely fine filtering unit like the M1 or Pure one and still get great flow and less relief valve bypass with a larger filter. So why not. They big ones don't cost more than the little ones except for the extra cup of oil at change time.

Thanks for all the info guys. I changed my oil yesterday and used a K&N HP-1002. It fits nicely onto the base plate and after 100mi, no leaks. Based on the fit I would not recommend any filter with an overall diameter greater than 3in, but i will research futher in the purolater that Goodvibe mentioned, as it appears to be over twice the length of the normal small filter.
