I should have taken a picture of this, but last night me and my gf were sitting at the beach around the corner from my house literally. All along the shore people had huge fireworks displays and it was awesome seeing like 4 shows at once. Now the big professional fireworks are illegal to buy/sell/use in CT (lame) but people do it anyways. So at one point while sitting there, a cop car pulls up with two popo's in it. They typically onle have one but did two for the holidays. I cracked that they must be short on gas money so their doublin up, lol!Anyways, we found it quite humorous that they were there to watch the fireworks being set off by the amatuers as well. LOL! Just a funny situation when they are supposed to be illegal. Glad to see my tax dollars working, hahaha.

The reason such fireworks are illegal is that they are dangerous.They are illegal in Ohio but it is a joke because our stupid legislature passed a law that allows their sale if the buyer signs a statement that they are taking them out of the state. The cops rarely do anything more than confiscate the unused ones if they catch you setting them off. Why do I care? Well if a child is injured they go to children's hospital and often they don't have insurance so the taxopayer picks up the tab.Did I mention that our legislators are stupid.

A situation occurred 2 days ago in metro-Detroit. A 27 year old mother of 3 got killed when an illegal "mortar type" firework exploded in her face. Apparently the firework was a commercial-type supposed to only be used by trained professionals.I'm not a big fan of fireworks for just that reason although it hasn't stopped people in my neighborhood from shooting them off for the last 10 nights in a row. I like to watch fireworks but to listen to them while trying to go to bed because I have to get up pretty early for the job is just plain annoying.Mikep.s. Took the family to the Tigers/Indians game last night and they had a nice fireworks display after the Tiger's victory. Neither of my kids had every seen fireworks so they had a good time.

Well the huge ones you see at shows are different. But I do enjoy setting them off if done right. When we went to Va Beach for the 4th a few years ago we pitched in for the neighborhood my fience's brother lived in. We setup a tent right along the waterline at the beachfront (not to mention the 5 kegs buried in the sand) and had buckets of sand and water on hand. Not to mention there were only two people actually lighting them with flashlights on their heads once they were in place, and they went down the row in order to ensure all were set off. They were angled to go away from shore a bit and wind was taken into account.For the duds that did not go off. They were drenched, covered with sand and then we tossed them away.

Where I live everything is illegal. I've got no problem with outlawing the mortars and other major stuff, but they even outlaw the "safe and sane" fountains, sparklers, etc.We always break the law and shoot off the safe and sane type, a few simple safety precautions and it is no big deal. This year however, the local heat must have rented a few extra helicopters, we had to delay several times while they flew by. Usually their air units are all focused on the beach where the real problems tend to occur.
