install new air filter = disconnect battery for a while?

I bought a K&N drop-in air filter.I'm going to "install" it tonight.I am almost sure I read something on here somewhere about resetting the ecm, although I'm too new at this to know what that means. Something about disconnecting the battery for a few hours?Any help would be appreciated. I did search with many terms and used google as well - no dice.Is any of this necessary? Dangerous? Thanks.

it isnt dangerous to do if done properly, like dont hurt your self on the battery :s. but isnt required for a drop in filter replacement. but if it were me...id do the battery disconnect.

disconnect the negative on the battery, put in your filter and then put the negative back on the battery wait like 5-10 min and then start your car, go drive a little. Disconnecting the battery like this resets the ecu so it can relearn any modifications you have done and adjust to them. ie. this air filter may change your air flow on the intake so it needs to relearn the Air fuel mix.

The easiest way of making SURE you've done that, is press and hold the brake pedal for a few seconds.. The lamps will drain off and un-used charge in the ECU... (there is no need to wait 5-10min BEFORE you drive the car, there is no learning happening until you go to start it.)I only say this because, it's hard to tell how long the ECU holds memory...And you want to drive the car long enough for the cooling fan to kick on, showing that you are good and up to temperature. Once you turn the car off, learn mode is deactivated...
