buying a vibe

Post by taynkay »

heythis is a great website. my wife and i are just in the process of buying a vibe. we've been searching for a few weeks and finally found something. they're so hard to find.we're buying an 03 awd automatic with a gps system. 88,000 KM (canadian)just wondering if you have any tips. anything i should be watching for or checking when i go to pick it up. haven't paid anything yet...when test driving i noticed that the ac wasn't as cold as it could be. still cold, but not enough as far as i'm concerned. they said they would fix any leaks or recharge the freon or whatever needed to be done. we were really hoping for a 5 spd and didn't need the gps, but the nicer speaker system that comes with is is nice. we'd really appreciate any tips.also, does anyone have a tonneau cover that they'd be willing to sell. preferably from canada?thanks in advanceaaron

Welcome to our Vibedom!!For colder or at least faster cold air check out the A/C Insulation Mod in the DIY Mod Index list in my signature. Also there is a door thingy attached to a cable that is under the passenger side foot well for coldest air an adjustment may need to be made to make sure this door stays shut. I forrget where the link to it is but someone here will post it soon

welcome to the genvibe addiction about your a/c problem: it takes a while longer to cool the vibe than a regular car because of all the open air in our lil rides, so that could make it seem like it doesn't blow all that cold. but once everything cools down inside, you'll be ok. i read on here a couple days ago about vibes n matrixes not havin as much freon goin through the lines as in older vehicles, so that will make a difference too. i plan on insulating my a/c lines in the next couple weeks, i think that'll help a lot.have fun here, and when you go to pick up your new baby, bring a camera n have the salesperson snap a pic or two of u guys to post on here. i won't be the only one tellin you "we love pics"

You will love your Vibe - I have ownded my 03 GT for 3 1/2 years and I couldn't ask for a better vehicle. The A/C is weak - But it's tolerable!! Get some Vent Visors - you need to crack your window when you use the AC for quite a while before you cool the interior - seems a bit more than most vehicles. The 'visor's' help when you need to do that on the highway. Tint is a good investment and may help you out as well! I had to have my AC recharged at about 50,000KM and it's 'perfomance' is boosted a little, but not considerably. The folks here can help you out more with that! Very friendly bunch of people - soo... Welcome! And Enjoy!

Regarding AC. It may be worth going to a heating and AC supply house or hardware store and purchasing a duct thermometer. This will allow you to actual check just how cold the air is from the vent. Also, the vibe has an in-cabin airfilter (in addition to the normal filter for motor area). You can ask then to replace that, or you can do it for it should not be expensive.
