Although that is a marketing ploy, reducing unsprung weight and rotating mass WILL put more power to the ground.... This is one of the reasions i've never bought new wheels for my Subaru, stock they are a hair over 16lbs each.... look at the prices for wheels that are under 16lbs in a plus one fitment .... crazy... and i wouldn't put a heavier wheel on a performance car.... the Vibe that's a different story, being a "mini-SUC"How much is going to change with lightweight lugs.... not much
I have "tuner" lugs on my Vibe, but I wanted to get a different look with the Scion wheels. Mine are the black, open-ended type. I would think the weight difference would be about nil as the lugs are so close to the centerline of the wheel anyway. Now if the weight was further to the outside of the wheel, that would be a different story.

If not be ware of open ended lugs, espically aluminum lugs as they will corrode onto the studs... using grease/anti-seize is a bad idea as well, as it drasticly changes the torque figures... As far as the lugs being close to the center, you right, it doesn't do much for rotating mass, but it "does" help with lowering unsprung weight...
