Emblems for my SLP Ram Air Vibe

Post by NovaResource »

Some Grand Am GT's have "Ram Air V6" emblems on the front of the car between the headlight and wheel opening:So I purchesed a pair from the local Pontiac dealer:Cut off the "V6" part:And painted the letters silver with the GM touch-up paint I purchesed:I should have just ordered silver ones instead of black but I wasn't sure if the silver used on the GAGT was the same as the silver on the Vibe. Now all that's left is to get my hood back (the body shop still has it and as of yesterday it's been there a full month) and install the emblems. Pictures will follow.I had already purchased a set of "Ram Air" decals that were for SLP Firebirds however, I felt they were a little too big and wouldn't look right. These GAGT emblems are about half as long and will look more subtle and stock in my opinion.

My co-worker has a GAGT...looks great, except I would expect to at least see some "nostriles" to go with the badging!

Nostrils are in the nostrils themselves in the front if it's RA. They make RA hoods for dealer install. Or ones like the hood below.

Pictures will follow. The body shop is taking over a month just to paint it?! Oh well. You will still have one of the sweetest looking vibes around when all is said and done. Always have dug ram air look when it is done well. One question though. When you put on the hood, the SLP set-up sends the positive pressure air from the scoop to the stock airbox. Call me crazy but that kinda sounds like defeating the purpose due to air leaks and restriction. I know its designed this way so the common dealer can install it easily by cutting a hole in the airbox, but it really isn't the most efficient way. Not saying I have a better way....just curious on your take.

Is the SLP RAM Air hood you purchased a functional RAM Air hood or is it just a cosmetic appearance? If it is functional, wouldn't that give you the same results as installing a CAI? Just out of curiosity (and I apologize if you have covered this before) how much did the hood run you? Does it just bolt on in place of the stock hood?Jim

Always have dug ram air look when it is done well.Yes, he's taking forever however, he's making it perfect. There were a few low spots they he wanted to take out. The low spots were caused because the 2-piece hood is glued togther. The top part is glued to the underside which contains the bracing and RA duct. It's also taking longer because getting metallic silver to match isn't easy. He needed a bright sunny day to paint a test panel and compare it to the original paint. The probalem is, we've had rain or cloudy days here for about 2 weeks. The good news is it should be done next week.quote:One question though. You have to send it to the factory box so it can be filtered. However, My factory box is removed and I installed an Injen CAI that was cut in half. The Injen filter is now where the factory air box was so the RA hood will direct cold outside air directly over the Injen filter.

The colder air is very nice, but don't you lose the power increase higher pressure air would give you? Any future plans on a more airtight set-up? I know its a family car for you so I'm sure it isn't critical for you to want to change though.

Actually, theres even a difference in the GT's. Theres the GT's that have 170HP without RA, and then the GT with RA and 175 HP. But they still dont make a V6 GA with a 5 speed!!

I'm with Scott on this! GM may have a different rating for the "Ram Air" version, but first, since ram effect increases as the square of the speed, how does the company decide what speed to rate it at? Second, the theoretical gain at 100 MPH is only 1.2%, and the actual will be even less, with bends and restrictions added in. Bottom line: Ram air on a base Vibe is worth less than 1-1/2 HP @ 100 MPH (and less than 0.6 HP @ 60!)

Well, DVGT, you were the last to mention GM Ram Air power ratings, and were only one post away from Nova's comments, so...Guess I'l have to be more mindful of post protocols.

You might also try visiting http://www.clubgpstore.com. Although it's for Grand Prix owners, they do have some generic Pontiac stuff, like decals, etc. that you might want.
