Wedding Gift Ideas

Post by TraySeeLea »

Well my best friend is getting married this August, and I have been deemed her "lucky" maid of honor...My friend has a registry at Target and Bed, Bath, and Beyond....but I really do not like what she has picked out. The hard thing is, is she is moving temporarily to a "timeshare"-esk complex/community in FL....so they have no particular color schemes for appliances, sheets, or anything for that matter. I know that I should get her something pratical.Does any one have any ideas for that would go "above" giving something off the registry, but is not over 200 dollars?

Since they are in limbo with a place get a gift car to one of those stores for that amount. Or get some glassware, kitchenware, etc. Me and my fience went to BB&B and filled a nice basket with all those tinker things like S&P shakers, spatulars (yes I know sp, but I call it that cause of Mr. Krabs), kitchen tools, etc. You'd be surprised how quickly you can make $200 disappear on that stuff.

Trust me when I say money is an awesome gift.Unless their rich, money helps in so many ways, pays for the wedding, honeymoon. All that stuff adds up to big bucks.I was lucky, everyone who attended our wedding gave us cash-wuhoo.

Ha, well they aren't rich.....yet.My friend is still young and is planning on becoming a Physcian's Assistant (she'll be making more than her man)...but until she gets a job she is making nothing....She always complains about having a tight budget....I always feel like saying why didn't you hold off on the wedding for a year then until you were established/on your feet...but she is way in to rushing things. She hasn't taken in to consideration that money is severly limited on my part right now because I am almost done with my Master's degree in August and am trying to find a real teaching position. So that is why I cringe at just randomly blowing 200 dollars that I dont have As you can tell....I love my friend...but, you almost want to place your hands around her neck....too bad they didn't elope. ahah

Well remember it is not what you like off the list. (Not being rude here but can speak from experience) She picked items she wants and for reasons, so I would stick to them...

Her grandparents are getting a big settlement from a hospital and they want to give us some $$$ as well. When all is said and done I will have about 10k saved and she will have 30-40k saved up. Nice down payment for our home!

I'm with Todd--you may not like what they picked out, but they obviously do, or they wouldn't have chosen those things. I guess to me that is why they 'invented' registries--so people can get what they actually want/need, so if it were me, I'd just stick to the list. You don't have to like what they like, but that's what makes the world go 'round!

yep, being experienced in the whole "getting married" thing as a young person, money or gift cards were great especially when we had to move. money is tight around a wedding. no matter who is paying for it, there's always something that comes up, traveling, buying flowers, decorations, etc. not everyone has the luxury of parents paying for theirs, and if she's not working yet, then money probably is and will be tight for awhile. i will also add, since she is your best friend, some times the best gifts are things that you can't really put a pricetag on like memories or photoalbums of all your great times together. once you get married, not intentionally, but just life can get you busy and you don't get to spend as much time with your friends anymore. money is always good, gift cards are also good. however, a long lasting friendship truly is priceless, so if you want to give her something unique and worthy of keeping, give her something from the heart or something you know she needs, perhaps mentioned in passing some time ago, something that only YOU would probably know.

What Hope said! And you may want to be thinking about a speach for the dinner if you have not thought about it yet.

And you may want to be thinking about a speach for the dinner if you have not thought about it yet.well traditionally the best man only gives the speech...I asked her if she would like me to speak and she said she did...Good thing I worked on the speech for an assignment in a grad class of mine based on writing.the registry thing is a nightmare, and she even commented on it. Her fiance did not participate in selecting anything...only my friend and her mother did--so it really isn't what "they" (the engaged couple) want.It isn't like I even care what they like...that wasn't what I was trying to say. I just don't see myself buying her a 99 cent wisk or something of that nature, cause anyone can go and buy her that.I just was looking for some suggestions of more meaningful gifts.I would loved to have done pictures...but, after high school graduation (5 years ago) she moved out of state and we didn't see so much of each other as much. (Therefore not so many pictures really)

money is good. if she plans on doing some moving... less things to move around, the better.

I can't really let the cat out of the bag on all the things that her and I did...I mean it was only 5+ years ago, but my parents are going to be there too....so hahaha
