weird clicking sound???

Post by Ninja_Logan »

My Vibe is making a clicking sound randomly every once in a while when i start accelerating or when i coast around corners at like 10 or 15 mph. its definately coming from my front end but im not sure if its a blet or transmission or suspension. anyone have the same problem or know what it is?

it could be something with the brake. My old sable had a piston that wouldnt work correctly and would not release right. It could also be a CV joint issue, or tie rod. Try pushing on that side of the car when its just off and sitting to see if its suspension (quick check). Some other members are going to know something too..

from info you have given my first guess would be cv axle. check and see if any boots are busted open. does it do it at higher speeds then 10-15???

Are your lug nuts tight.A loose wheel will cause that sound also.

this started with my vibe a few short days ago! its constant though. if u turn off ur stereo and AC. stick ur head out the window. u can hear it. lol. but its REALLY noticeable at lower RPMS and low speeds cause less noise to interfere. My vibe is currently in the body shopI told the body shop dude this afternoon when I went and took these pics, and he said in the morning they will look and see what it is. I told him it drove the same, just made that awful clicking noise. He told me he is pretty sure its the belt or tensioner. I just hope to god he is right. lol. BTW I took in my Vibe this morning at 8am, and will be getting it back at 5pm tomorrow. KICKASS. and the guy saved me from having to pay my deductible.

well I went and saw the guy today. He is talking to the Pontiac dealership where I got my car, and the guy says he is looking for recalls or any common problems that would cause this. There was nothing wrong with the belt or tensioner they said. So I don't know, I was hoping it would be a quick easy fix...I guess it could still be, but not sure yet. Im supposed to call him in an hour and a half to find out whats up. When ever I find out what is wrong I'll be sure to post back.

This may sound stupid, but it might be something as simple as a rock in the tire.

You can usually go and pay $20 to have a total axle inspection. I'd do that. It's possible a CV boot is torn and rocks/dirt have entered.

Heya...in 2004 I started experiencing a clicking sound which seemed to come from the rear driver's side though on occasion, it seemed to come from the front passenger side. Brought it in to my Pontiac Dealer... they found nothing and charged me $39 to check - Went to a place then soon became my new tire place, they heard it but suggested I go to GM in case it was a warranty issue. Since my Pontiac place already charge me, I decided to tackle it myself, sorta.I noticed the piston on my rear caliper was loose. I could push it in about 1/8" then it would just sit there freely. Bled the brakes and Presto... the clicking stopped. My clicking mainly occured at a very slight press of the brakes then sometimes continued on once I removed the brakes. The assumption was that the rotors were very slightly warped causing the brake pad to catch and release as that warped part went through the calipers. Bleeding the brakes fixed the "play" in the pad thus ending my problem. This might help you as well...Dave

well i know its the engine. i pop the hood and manually rev it, and it clicks there. the otehr day i went to check on the car at the shop. the guy told me there is no oil in my car..... I dont know (removed) that is about. lol. I get it changed every 3000 miles. Anyway he told me its the timing chain tensioner. It is operated by the oil pressure and since there is NO oil, it cant operate correctly.Any idea how the oil went away? lol. There are no oil spots in my driveway or any of my normal parking spots. The engine never got hot, the needle always started at cold and went until it was straight up and stopped there. They are gonna finish the paint and stuff Monday. Then when that is all complete, they will put it on a lift and make sure what they said was true. They are gonna look at all of this for free, but if its anything major, they are gonna make me pay for it.

It's good that they may have found the problem. It's usually a good idea to check the oil level whether or not it is using any or not. Sometimes the only symptom of low oil is the engine locking up. But good luck and hopefully it is an easy fix.

well.... paint isnt right he said, so they are gonna respray the car today. anyways he told me today, he thinks its a sensor that does sumthin with the overhead cams. He thinks it is stuck or broke. I dont know yet, he is supposed to know all this stuff for sure tomorrow. I go meet him when i get off work around 12. Then I will be face to face with him and get the real deal. But until then im driving my dad's 86 el camino SS. hehe. it sucks down gas but it sure sounds good with its flowmasters on it. lol

mine makes the same sound...mostly when u put it in gear..or reverse.or accelerate quick.but i know what mine is.I had the belt tensioner replaced last year.but it get at it the upper engine mount had to be take off.....and the enegin lifted a bit out of place......but I think it cased the cv joint to come out of place a bit...now it clicks at the drivers side wheel hub.....check and see if that is where it is comin from...could be the same prob.

They are gonna look at it tomorrow and let me know whats up. I hope they figure this crap out and let me know. haha. Now its a REAL mechanic and not a body guy guessing about stuff.

they suggested i change my oil and flush it. Well after doing that, spending another $50. SAME EFFIN PROBLEM. so now they are taking a look inside the Vibe's engine. . I should know in the next few days what is going on and how much it will cost to get it fixed. As of right now, I owe the shop $150 and nothing is even fixed. haha

Hey V. well they are gonna redo it when I get it fixed. The paint sucks right now. It dried out in spots and I dunno. I was mad though. They are gonna repaint it for free though.

I wish. haha. I make around 200 - 250 a week. I cant afford anything else really. The wheels, I must explain. My buddy gave me some tire and wheel cleaner/shine stuff. Man the first 3 or 4 days, looked wet and sexy. But after that, the brake dust clinged on it. lol. I bought ceramic brakes to go all around so it shouldnt be that bad again, plus i dont use that cleaner BS on teh wheels anymore. I have already installed the front brakes, but have yet had my car back long enough to do the back ones.
