Which Cell Phone?

Post by Isosceles »

I'm renewing my contract with Cellular One and I figured I get a new cell-phone. I want one that has long battery life and good reception. I don't text or need the internet, I just want a good phone. Anyone have any suggestions, even if it is, "Don't get this phone!".

Well of the choices that I can see from their website I would have to choose between the Moto V197 or the Nokia 6085. I would probably do the Nokia just because it has more options, and I have read some good reviews on it. Not sure how much you are looking to spend, but for $50 it looks like a good deal. I wouldn't get a Razr, I have heard almost as many bad things about them as good.http://www.phonescoop.com/phon...=1138

I cant stand motorolla OS's on cell phones, the menu system just drives me nuts. I have a Nokia 5300 xpress and its freaking sweet. Any Nokia phone will have great reliability and menu system. For my nokia 5300 I went to the tmobile store and just played with phones, also my sister had that phone. She also had the motorola pebl and 2 razr's. So i knew i wanted the nokia. I say go to the store and check them out, some models will be online only as anyone with a sim card can pretty much be unlocked and used on different networks. aka you could order one off ebay thats unlocked for you carrier.

I have a razr v3m...haven't had any problems with it. Dropped it many times on asphalt. It's been a year, I think.

Well, I got a Sony Ericsson W300i. Seems like a great phone so far. Excellent reception and the battery is suppose to be great.

All I thought I would do was innocently add my 2cents that I haven't had any problems with it. I'm satisfied with it, know others who are, and I don't find it hard to charge it every 3 days. Maybe it's not for some, but it's good enough for me. but then again, people who have never driven/owned have bad-mouthed the Vibe too.

I right now have a Moto RIZR and like it very much. I would also recommend the Sony Ericsson W810i. Great phone, great camera and walkman as well. Battery life is superior to my Motorola.

You don't believe me. Honestly, I get more than 23 hours standby, and mine is on 24/7 because I don't have a landline; in case my Mom needs me I'm 2 minutes away from her home. I've gone days without charging it. I charge mine on Thursday night for work Friday, and don't charge it again until Monday night (I work Tues-Fri) and it still doesn't beep. I don't text much, and don't use it for internet. I do have a bluetooth...not sure if that saves the battery time or not. I don't have a car charger for it, and the A/C adapter won't fit in the car plug, so I don't carry the charger with me.I think it depends on talk time/How much you use it? I guess I'm just not as popular as you then

I've asked a couple of coworkers how long their battery lasts, but they use their phones much more than I do so (my cell habits are more like what you described), so when they said they had to charge it everyday, I didn't know how to take it.

as a Cellular One Authorized Dealer in AK, I will tell you my thoughts on which phones are better:Razr: stay away. the GSM versions seem to have a lot of issues with the screens, battery life, and keeping a chargeL6 Blade: boring and lameNokia 6126: Good so far, but the battery life is only so so. for the price, the features and what you get on the phone, it's a good dealNokia 6085: also decent phone for the price and features. I just ordered some for my stores, so we'll see how they go once they arrivethough you mentioned you don't need anything fancy, if you did, i'd recommend the Black Berry Pearl. i love mine and sell out as soon as I get more in stock. they aren't cheap, but they do everything! I love my phone!

probably not. the CDMA units don't seem to have this problem, so not sure what the deal is. I actually quit carrying the razors even though i'm asked on a daily basis why. i've had a lot of problems and people returning them. so i lose money with them all tied up in inventory and crappy phones. though i'm not supposed to as a dealer, i do prefer unlocked units and sometimes will sell them to customers who prefer. my blackberry is unlocked as well as my other 2 previous phones. i like the Moto L7 Slivers (the real ones). i also sell out of those. in fact, i ordered 2 more and have them sold before they arrive. VGA camera, bluetooth, sd card slot on the OUTSIDE and not in the battery compartment, internet, email, etc. the camera kinda sucks but hey, oh well. i will add that the newer Nokias (6126 and 6085) also have these features, but the 6085 has FM and the SD card is inside the battery compartment while the 6126 is just behind the battery cover and has 1.3 megapixel camera. quite nice imo.

My Razr will go a week on a charge, with light use before I get the low battery warning. I might use an hour of talk time per week, plus keeping my outlook calendar synched with it.I did have to exchange the battery right after I got it, as the one it came with did not hold a charge well. After a full charge the indicator would drop to two bars in a matter of hours, now mine will hold three bars for three days.It holds a charge as well as my last two phones, I think one was a motorola and one was a Nokia.

For years I had Sprint Service - $45 a month including all taxes. Never used very many minutes. I switched to stimobile [www.stimobile.com]. I paid $5 to activate phone, then it's 20 cents day and 10-12 cents a minute. Get my recharge cards at Staples. So now it costs me less than $20 a month and they use the same Sprint network. They have deals on basic phones. Mine is a Samsung A660 but I don't think they make that anymore. Had Samsung phones when I was with Sprint too - always thought they were great.

I got the Motorola KRZR as a gift and love the thing. I go about a week between charges - most of that time is in standby mode.

I think we pay Cingular/ATT something like $110-$120/mo. for 5 phones.

I have no idea what a GSM or CDMA is, but I'm with Verizon, and the Razr model is V3m, if that helps. I haven't charged it since Monday night, and I still have 3 lines left on the battery meter.

if you talk alot on your phone, your battery life will be less than if it's always in standby.my battery life on my BBP is pretty good considering I will burn through 2000 mins a month easy. I'm actually surprised it's only 2000 mins, but i have free mobile to mobile and nights and weekends from 7 pm. that helps.

In the next couple of months I'll be switching phones as the one I have now I've had for 2 years. I'm thinking of getting a Motorola V365. Has anyone heard any positive or negative comments on this particular phone? I'm looking at talk time being one on the biggest factors for this phone.

we sell them only because that's the phone designated for push to talk here. i have not played with one myself other than for P2T training, so i can't really tell you the battery/talk life. i know my L7 was well used and the battery life was great. Also, my BBP i have now the battery/talk is pretty good too, but i make sure I plug it in every night or at the kiosk. it's my main phone line for business and personal.

My phone so far is perfect for me. I charged it last sunday night and it still has some battery left today. The reception has been great. I haven't put any songs on it yet, but I've used the camera and the pictures are pretty good. This is the Sony Ericsson W300i.

The w300i is a popular flip version for Sony. It is a good little phone but I would tell you to get the w810i instead. It is a candy bar type phone but it is loaded with features.

I'd prefer to spend around $150, so the w300i is already a little over that threshold. Would you recommend waiting until the w810i is about $100 less (maybe in a year)? Is it that much better?

The phone was ok when it worked but I had to get the 1st one replaced in 3 months (display went blank) and the 2nd one started giving me display issues after a year.
