Best size for a 2003 16 inch gt...

Hi,i'm in the process of ditching my horrible Bridgestone RE92.Was wondering if i can go to 225/50/16 with the original Pontiac mags? Or am i limited to 215?Thanks

I have 225/50/16 on my 2006 base Vibe on the stock aluminum rims with no problems. I have Fuzion HRi all season and have had no complaints. Thats ablut the biggest size that you would go on the 16" rims.Good luck!

Get the SPT'z man, hands down a better tire... I've owned many Kumho tires and LOVE them... General, is just general... Meh, the difference between 215 and 225, 1cm of width, let cost guide you, the difference in width won't do much for you, if anything except for changing the price... If it were 205 to 225 that's a bit different... but it's not... Where are you going to get them?? Online? Look at Discounttire.com or Tirerack.com (discount tire has free shipping BTW) P.s. RE92's are the devils spawn, can you believe they get put on the WRX/RS stock..!!! Them POS tire nearly killed me when my RS was new, 2hrs after owning it... I do admit i had "superman syndrome" at the time, but there still devils spawn...

We're using 225/50/16 Goodyear TripleTreds. Great tire and now have 17K miles and still look new.

Hheeh.. I like the definition of the RE92 as the devil spawn... seems fitting .Since i'm up north (canada) buying online is a pain... Duty fee are killing any opportunities... Even if our money finally rise to something acceptable vs US .Now i'm in the difficult choice of a General Exclain UHP 215/55/16 (would be my first choice but 225 are backorder everywhere) and Kumho Exsta spt 225/50/16. Tire rack rating place the general first in the category.. for a tire of that price that seems as the deal of the century (kumho is well place but score lower).I guess 215 would be enough and since general have the best review it would seems like the good option.

Ahh, your up in canuk land... I know there are online tire places up there to, but i just don't know of any of them... google is your friend... Even Tire Racks ratings aren't the best.... I know the difference from literly months of reading on my Subaru site, looking for tires... Go Kumho man, you will not be dissapointed, are you planing on running winter tires as well? have you looked at Canadian Tire yet?? I don't know any conadian postal codes, so i can't really browse the site... EDIT: Ok i figured out how to get in AND they have no Kumho... If you can get'em, get'em, they get good reviews over at my Subaru site NASIOC.com...

Hi.Tirerack deliver to Canada.. At a correct rate but they use UPS and they are terrible with the duty broker fee.I'll check for the kumho vs General... I know that they are ok. Must admit the 215 is a bit less costly too (about 30$ per tire..) not a big deal but that will ease the case on wife

i was using 215 width tires for a lil while but they threw off the odometer and spedometer cause the overall diameter changes a lil. i asked my dealer if they could compensate for the new tires (recalibrate the sensor/flash what ever remembers the size) and they said they dont have the capability and forced me back to the 205 width. if i didnt switch back to the 205 they were gona void my warranty cause "they put extra stress on the engine and other components". if i were you i'd check with your dealer and see if they want to be a-holes or not if you go with the 215's, the 225's keep the correct diameter and only change the width

Well i'm out of warranty anyway sooo not a big deal for that. As for the 215.. yeah odometer would show about 1 mph slower than real... didnt seems to be a big deal to me... but maybe it is? I can understand for the dealership since it can change the real km driven vs what the car show but beside of that..?

A 225/50/16 is the same diameter as the original 205/55/16. It's the diameter, not the width, that causes speedo error and changes the load on the engine.

To break down a tire size you need to look at the numbers. a 205/55-16 and a 205/60-15 SHOULD be the same outside diameter... It's called "Plus Sizing" there is much about this on http://www.tirerack.com in the tech papers...

I'm supprised about what you said... Using this: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.htmlseems to me that if you keep the same /55 number and change the 205-215-225 you change the overrall diameter. For what i thought -1 mph difference wasnt that bad... But seems that it can?!? make some damage so Kumho it will be.. tuesday morning

He's also changed the wheel diameter from 16" to 15" in his example with the 15" being slightly less in diameter.
