TPMS goes off no matter what PSI

Post by Whelan »

Odd. It went off when all the tires were put to the spec 32.5 rear and 33 or 35 front as stated on the door. Light came on approx 15-20 miles after. Change pressure to 35 all around, light came on again.Change pressure to 38 now, light still comes on?I don't know what the issue could be, what else could make the light go on randomly when driving normal? I have to put in P then back to D then reset only to have it come back on soon after. I'm ready to pull the freakin bulb out its so annoying!

this is going to sound REALLY stupid....but check the spare.... we've have that to be the problem on Toyota's in our service dept before. The other thing, carefully read the sequence about resetting the TPM. You have to do it with the tires COLD, and then you have to drive for about an hour for it to stabilize. Took me about 3 tries to get it right after I switched to nitrogen....

Yours is specified for 32 rear and 35 front? Mine is set for 32 all around.

The way the TPMS works on this car is by using the ABS speed sensors to determain if a tire is low (more than 5 lbs differential between 2 on an axle will make that wheel read a different speed, and that's what set's off the light), so as long as both tires on an axle are at the same pressure, you shouldn't get a warning light. It's also why it takes so long for the system to callibrate itself.

Any time you change tire pressures or rotate them or get new tires, etc. you MUST reset the system per the procedure in the manual. And by extension - once it comes on, you must reset the system or it will keep coming on (not just turn off the light).
