well, here is the story:for those of you that don't know, i have a shih tzu named maggie. (pic for fun)anyway, aunt flo recently came to visit maggie, so she has officially become a woman, er grown up dog... or something like that, whatever. ever since, she has been peeing everywhere, proclaiming anywhere i will let her go as her territory.yesterday, a fairly big mutt type dog showed up on our porch, and headed for maggie's favorite window to look out of. we shooed him off several times but he keeps coming back. he is obviously someone's pet because his fur is in really good condition and he's very clean. however, he has no tags, so we don't know who's dog he is.today, drunkengirlfriend stayed home from work sick and the dog returned. she was afraid to take maggie out to do business all day, but finally had to let the poor pooch out to relieve herself. as soon as maggie took a pee, the dog came right for her and drunkengirlfriend had to shoo him off with an umbrella, but he still won't leave.i will end up hurting this dog if he attacks maggie or even looks like he's going to. animal control probably won't be by until tomorrow because they say he's not a threat. the Fer has taken my shoes off the porch and a sandal, he needs to go. i hope i don't have to hurt the dog, but this could have all been avoided with some simple tags.

umm I don't think he wants to hurt "maggie" but I know what you mean, I have 2 female purebred labs and the neighbor dogs would love to come see them.can you get a leash (piece of rope) around his neck then tie him to an area stop sign, the owner will come looking when he doesn't come home, and if he doesn't, well your problem is solved.in our town dogs have to be on a leash. but the damn cats don't.

OT, but I'm curious why you guys have waited until now to get her fixed? My understanding was within 6 months was the best time for the dog. Then again, I get all my pets spayed or neutered, just as Bob Barker told me too.

the vet told us she needed to have her first period before doing so. i have never heard that myself. most people told us she needed to be 6 mos old. i dunno.

she's about 9 mos. old and this is her first time. this is my first female dog. i know males start getting the red rocket pretty much right out the gate.

That which may be known of God is evident within man, for God has shown it to them, so that they are without excuse.(Romans 1:19-20) What do you want most in life?
hell no! i wouldn't do that. i couldn't kill any pooch, unless it was life or death! nah, the worst that would happen would be me kick his (removed). luckily, i think the situation has been diffused, we haven't seen him, so he's probably made his way to the local shelter by now.

[QUOTE=HawaiiPontiacLover]Nope. Everybody's different. My girl was 8 months when she got her first cycle. I think the larger breeds may take a year or more. when we got ginger from the spca, she was spayed before they'd let us take her home, she was right at 6 mos. but i'm sorry but i have to giggle at the quote, i mean, all dogs are different just like all women start different too. i really hope you don't have to deal with umm, heat issues, anymore. my dog even after the spay was the neighborhood hoochie dog whenever we took her on walks. yeah, mama's not so proud of that...
