My New Gas Saver

Well, I've been wanting one for a long time, so I finally did it--got myself a new scooter! The first step towards actually being able to ride a motorcycle!Last Thursday I picked up my brand new Yamaha Vino 125 and brought it home. I've been cruising around on the back streets in my neighborhood trying to get used to it; finally brought it to work this morning--still a little nervous on the busy streets, but I'll get used to it eventually. I DO need to get a motorcycle license since it's bigger than 50 cc, so once I get comfortable enough on it, I'll go take the test--I need to pass the written test AND a driving test, but everyone tells me that as long as I use my turn signals I'll pass the driving part. I've only been out on it a few times, but so far it is really fun to cruise around on! And about 80 mpg isn't too shabby either!

As much as I hate to admit it, those little things are pretty neat. My mom just picked up a scooter as a gas saver. It's technically a electric bicycle but it's still fairly fun to "scoot" around on. Hers tops out at 23 MPH tho HAHA My daughter really enjoys riding around on it It makes me want a bike

haha!cool! my girlfirend is seriously thinking about one too, just to run errands in. 80+mpg is great. you'd probably fill it up maybe 3 times the whole summernice choice!go get 'em, easy rider!

Well, it only holds about a gallon--that's the only bad part. I like this Yamaha though--the stance of the handlebars is a little wider, so it almost has a more 'motorcycle-y' feel to it. I don't feel all scrunched up like a lot of scooters are. Since it's a 125 cc it should go fairly fast. The speedo tops out at 80 but I highly doubt it would actually GO that fast. But I think I could do 60-65 on it. I'm thinking nitrous...some leather bags...and a custom paint job with bubbles on it. Huh? Huh? Oh yeah, and the stuff Joat said....

Very sweet. Had thought about getting something like this myself.Are there any fairly steep hills around where you live? I'm curious how they are for climbing.There are so many hills around Pittsburgh I don't know if one that size would do me much good.One like djb might be cool, though I'd imagine it's a lot more money.

it should be fine on hills. it's no rocket, but 125 is decent for such a lightweight vehicle. i have ridden an old beaten up 49cc and it got my big as up to 30mph.i'd love to get one of those things, but i think i would look funny riding it. picture some guy with 16 tattoos wearing a wife beater riding a scooter.

DM, I think that is what they call "Irony". I think you should do it. I have a Yamaha Star black leather motorcycle jacket that I plan on wearing on my scooter.

You might want to seriously consider going through a Motorcycle Safety Foundation Basic Ridercourse. You will learn a lot more about riding a scooter/motorcycle than by just riding around your neighborhood. I know they are not necessarily cheap to take, but the information and riding practice you get is worth every penny. Don't know how it is in SD, but CO just gives you your motorcycle endorsement upon completing the MSF course. Also, some insurance companies give you a discount for completing an MSF course. Thanks NU--I fully plan on taking the class. I was actually signed up last spring, but my Dad passed away and I wasn't in the right frame of mind to be taking the class, and I went home to spend time with my Mom. Since then I've sort of lost my "mojo" to take the class. But now that I have the scooter I will be taking the class at some point, once I get used to it more.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting used to it. We had a couple of people in the class I took that had NEVER been on a motorcycle before. When the class started I thought "Man, how the heck are they going to pass this?" But they both did very well once it came time for the "final exam".I'm glad to hear you are going to take the class though. I had been riding for a few years, but never got my endorsement (yeah, I know....shame on me). I had to unlearn some bad habits I had acquired. Have fun on the scooter!

I've been told that PA offers a free rider training course in which they guarantee that you will pass the PA Motorcycle driver's exam. Though, if it's anything like their regular driver's exam, I doubt it could be that difficult, anyway.
