Well, boy howdy! What a thrill ride tonight's episode was!Frankly, I'm still too high from the adrenaline rush to think about it. My wife and I watched the big beach scene at least three times on the DVR...that was awesome.I gotta smoke a cigarette....
Okay...an hour and few cigs later...{mild spoiler alert, if you haven't seen it yet}If all of Jack's off-island scenes are "flash-forwards", then how is his dad alive? (Jack says to the doc, "You go get my father down here ... and if I'm drunker than he is, then you can fire me." or something like that). That little line is buggin' the cr@p out of me...
It is probably because he was delusional from the Oxy and alcohol and suicidal depression. Probably also meant to throw you for a loop by not knowing that it was actually taking place in the future and not the past.SPOILER:The real question is, who was in the casket? Was it Locke, Ben, maybe even Sawyer.
Okay..I'll buy into the "delusional state" explanation.Casket...I originally thought it was Locke. No one would have come to his funeral since he tried several times to keep everyone on the island. OTOH, if a real rescue effort came, he'd avoid leaving at all costs.Would Jack cry over Ben? Don't think so. Sawyer? I dunno about that either. Now I got another head-scratcher for you: If that wasn't Penny's boat offshore, then how did the girl (Naomi) have the pic of Desmond and Penny on her? AND ONE MORE THING...how did Locke know about the boat offshore? He was with Ben & the Others when that all came to light. Don't remember Sawyer telling him anything in the ship.
AND TWO MORE THINGS!! HUGE SPOILER... First of all, Charlie had no reason to die. He could have escaped either by leaving the door open and he and Desmond swimming out the access point (where they came in) or by going through the porthole.Second of all, the Russian (name?) pulled a "Syler" (you Heroes fans know what I'm talking about). I know that guy's been killed once already, but twice? I HATE that guy!!

Judging by the look the other doctor gave him when he said it, I suspect his father is dead, which is why Jack responded about not looking at him like that (like he's crazy).I've thought they were in Purgatory for a while. We haven't seen anything sinister about Rose & Bernard to suggest that they would be in Hell, so Purgatory makes the most sense.Frequent references to Christianity in the show.Jack's obsession in the 1st season to want to believe it was all anything BUT religion suggests that it probably was. There are a couple of people I'm not quite sure about Desmond, for one. The Casket... I think it was Ben. He was with them when they contacted the boat. If that is how they got off the island, he would have gotten off with them.Either that, or it was Julia. As for Charlie, the only thing I can figure is that Desmond told him that if he didn't die, they wouldn't be saved. Seeing as how Desmond's previous vision saw Penny being the skydiver and it turned out to be somebody different after saving Charlie, he probably didn't want to risk them not getting off the island simply to save him again. He knew he was going to die anyway. At any rate, I've heard a lot of talk that the show is ending after this next season. So, I guess we'll know by this time next year.
actually, they just signed for 3 more seasons, which should be interesting in the least!i agree about charlie, he did it to ensure the rescue.the casket is a complete mystery to me. it could be ben. perhaps jack murdered him after they were saved, but then felt really bad? could be sawyer, could be locke, who knows. i say it's one of the 3 because noone was at the funeral. maybe locke was killed for trying to stop the escape?all i know is that was one of the best episodes of any television show i have ever seen.sawyer: "this is for takin' the kid off the raft" >

So does this mean that we will see "flash forwards" now rather than flashbacks? I agree with the comment that Jack's father really is dead, he's just wacked out from the booze and drugs.

2010?!?!? Ugh.As much as I like the show, that's really dragging it on far too long. It's already starting to show signs of wear.Note:After reading about the 2010 thing, I searched for a bit more info.Yes, the show will run for 3 more seasons, but they will be SHORTENED seasons. Each season will be 16 episodes (for a total of 48). The 16 episodes will air consecutively, repeat-free, from February to May. Basically, the same schedule they had this season after the initial "mid season" hiatus. For those of you doing the math, that means we won't see another new episode until NEXT FEBRUARY!! 8 months! Then it'll air for another 4 months... and ANOTHER 8 month lag again! While I realize that in the over all scheme of things, we're really just talking about two more seasons of the length we've had since the begininng of the show, dividing that up over the next three years really stinks!!It's the same frustrating schedule us fans of Dead Zone, 4400 and Stargate Atlantis have grown to HATE over the years.I can somewhat understand that filming schedule from a network such as USA or Sci-Fi. The major studios don't want to invest the funds into full time 22-26 episodes a season shooting. But, this is ABC we're talking about here. If this is a hedge against sinking ratings (which, unfortunately, they are, down about 14%), then do what was originally planned. Run it for ONE more full length season and end it. Basically, what JJ Abrams wanted to do (which is where I got my original idea that it was ending next season). When asked by USA Today whether he thought the 8 month lag between seasons would hurt the show, executive producer Carlton Cuse said "People wait longer than eight months for the next books and films in the Harry Potter story and they don't seem to lose interest. We have faith that our audience, knowing exactly how much of the story we have left, is going to be with us for the rest of the ride."I think that's a somewhat arrogant approach to things. I think it's somewhat conceited to compare a movie franchise to a TV series.ABC Entertainment president Steve McPherson says the unusual long-term commitment is "a unique situation" he would be unlikely to repeat for other series. "It's one of the best shows that's ever been on," he says. "It's got brilliant storytelling, incredible character work, and takes chances beyond anything that's on the air now." McPherson concedes that splitting the current third season in two "was not the best for the show" and says the network also is discussing a return to an earlier time slot to draw more family viewership. So, let's see. No Abrams. 3 mini-seasons instead of 1 or 2 normal ones.Any bets on them having all 48 episodes in the can before the middle of the 5th season?
Oh yeah I wasn't happy to learn about the new "season format" they're doing. It sucked watching the season finale knowing I wouldn't get to watch the continuation for 8 or 9 more months.

That way he could still "die" and yet live. But if he does die, then maybe we won't have to hear him sing "you all everybody" anymore

Casket: Don't think it was Julia, since I'm pretty sure that Jack and Kate referred to "him" in their final talk.Someone on another board suggested Ben since no one outside the island would have known him, so naturally, no one would show up at the funeral. However, I wonder if he'd leave the island.I'm still gonna have to run with the Purgatory theory. Why?Well, Jack's "future" clearly is Hell.
Okay I'm gonna be (removed) here - her name is Juliette. And when Sawyer shot the guy, we were both going "about frikkin' time someone stopped believing what they say!" Up until this show, they've been letting "the others" walk all over them. They have had numerous chances to do something about Ben but they didn't. When Jack beat him to a pulp it was about frikkin' time too!
