Modifying whilst i'm deployed.

Post by joholste »

So I've gotten my list of mods that i want to do when i get back into the states. and it's pretty extensive, but the nice thing is i have over a year in which i can collect used parts from peoples. such as the turbo kit i just bought off of LaserMcKnight on MO(who bought it from RIOTRIX). so here's the listTurbo (kit includes HydraEMS stand-alone ECU) Level Ten Tranny UpgradeCrower cams Fuel PumpMoroso Oil PanBillet Connecting RodsSpring and retainer set 18x8 Kosei K1 TS (silver painted)Kuhmo Ecsta MX tiresSparco racing seats(blue)Top spoiler HID Headlights will place a star beside each item as i procure them.I may not need to get the Moroso Oil Pan but it's on the list just as something that i may get in the future. I'm also thinking that I may convert my car from being an automatic to being a manual. and that'll run me from what I can tell about 1500-2000.so now to sit back and watch as the toys start piling up.

sounds awesome, joholste I'm sure alot of people are like me and will want to know more about the auto -> manual swap. Are you going to do the work yourself when you get back or have a shop do it?

I am very lucky in that the base that i work on in the states has a very nice automotive skills center with lifts, engine jacks, the whole nine yards, and automotive techs to give advice. So I more than likely will be doing the auto->manual swap myself if I do it....I forgot to mention that I'm also thinking about getting a new paint job. I will have plenty of time to collect these things because right now I've got over a year left on my deployment, My higher says that the 15 month extension more than likely affects my unit.

Good luck with the tranny swap! Researched it. It was too hard to find a good used tranny with all of its components AND ECU and harness. You NEED all of that stuff too. Preferably from the same doner car. Even had the tranny shop try thier database.I've had the morroso oil pan for 2 years now. As long as you have someone able to weld aluminum, it'l be alright. Jus finally got the thing to stop leaking oil all over the place everytime I park. First it leaked form the engine flange. Then from all the plugs. Then, some how, the main drain plug got stripped (some shop probly noticed it leaking and 'torqued' it down). And it still leaked. Finally said F it! And put J B weld around the drain plug. Now I just use the oil temp plug to drain the oil. So, good luck with the oil pan! It's going to be cool to see your car finished. Take lots of pics for us!

yes, you can't just swap out the tranny to convert the car from auto to manual. you need all the wiring harnesses and ECU. and if you can do it for $1500-2000, you got a smoking deal! the parts will probably run you around that or more plus then labor unless you plan to take on such a venture yourself. good luck with that! you'd be better off selling the current vibe and just getting an older used 5MT base.

That's the nice thing, i'm gonna have a stand alone ECU (Hydra) and i will more than likely be doing the work myself.

i didn't think the Hydra replaced the ECU all together, but was ECM (management) of the ECU. i know several people here that have done full engine and tranny swaps also with ECM systems and they have all had to use the factory ECU and wiring, then add the ECM to make it all work better. i don't know though, the techs are still trying to talk me into doing a full STI 6MT DCCD swap on my LGT. That's $$$$ but would be cool. however, not on my list of things to do. i'd rather use that money and pay off the car. that's a lot of extra money i can spend on mods and paying off bills once the car payment is gone.

I also just picked up the Mr. Grille billet inserts. and I may also paint the car with a royal blue fade to navy blue fade to black like this... It will all have metallic flakes in it.

are you going to leave the cladding gray? You'll have to tear the whole car down anyway so you might as well paint it, too IMO
