Hypothetical question.

Post by DopeVibeGT »

Ok, suppose there's this small aftermarket company. You decide to buy one of their product. You call them up and place the order. Now, they make these parts as they are ordered, so they dont stock them. Now, you place your order. Someone, a week later, also orders parts, but only orders one piece. They are suppose to go in order they are recieved. But, the guy who ordered his part a week after you did, already had his for a week or so. So, you call the company and ask whats up!? They say it could be several more weeks before they get to my order. My question is, would you be really PO'd about now, or understand that you ordered more parts, so it will take longer? I think, no matter how many of the parts you order, YOU should get your order first, before someone who order theirs after you. Am I off base here???

I totally agree with you! You should get your order first. Be sure to let us know who this company is so that if we are going to order anything from them, we may think twice about it.

What REALLY gets under my skin is that I was told it would be 2 1/2-3 weeks to make it, then 5 days to recieve it. It's been 7 weeks as of today. Now they say 3 more weeks???

I can see them filling the smaller order first. If they already have the product or its easier to make and get out the door, then they will always fill the smaller order first. It's not always easier to go buy the "First in First Out" approach especially in sales. The sales guys want to get their commissions and that can't be cleared until delivery is taken. The warehouse doesn't want to have product in the warehouse after it's been ordered, that increases their inventory costs and could effect their monthly margains. The question to ask here is how much more stuff did you order, was it similar parts that were ordered? If the answer is yes then they should have spilt your order and given you the easier to fill parts first (i.e if you and your buddy ordered the same part) and given you a timeline on the rest of your order. If they are not similar than you really can't compare the order fill times. I hope this made a little sense, It's early in the morning and my brain ain't workin' yet

I would notify the company that you are notifying your credit card of fraud and tht they will be contacting them to see what is going on. (Usually the credit card companies report these mishaps to the better business bureau. GOOD LUCK AND GIVE 'EM HELL

Considering my order is close to $2000 and the other one is only $500, who's order would you fill first? If they filled the smaller orders first, I would NEVER get mine. Another person ordered the same thing I did, and got his in 3 1/2 weeks. This is BS, and the more I think about it, the more angry I get!! This is a small, personal company, and I think they have favorites, and I'm not one of them. They dont charge the CC until they get ready to ship the product, which is a good thing.

$2000?! They should be doing everything they can to get you taken care of as soon as possible. That's a big purchase! If you don't mind me asking, what did you order?

It's not how much you are spending that motivates a seller to ship... it's how much off the sale they are MAKING. On your $2000 sale, there may be discounts for purchasing many items at once. Those buying only one item may not get a discount. So it's possible that the company actually makes more money shipping out several small orders than it can shipping out only a few large orders.Of course this is all hypothetical.KSNeptune

It's a body kit for my other car. There's no discount on the items. Just all the parts added up. Why should I have to wait 10+ weeks for something others only wait 3 weeks for?

They called back tonight an apologized. The lady is so nice, it's hard to be mad! We worked everything out, and she told me why that happened. So, it's all good. This is a small operation, maybe 4 people, and they are VERY busy at this time.

I do know how you feel. A year ago this week I ordered a large item and was told it would be 6 weeks. After 6 weeks they didn't know when it would be in. After 8 weeks I realized that other people were having no trouble getting their merchandise, we will let you know. After 9 weeks they told me they don't know when I would get my item, they were busy building them for people who ordered 4 weeks ago, we will get back to you. After 12 weeks they told me they would be building my item in 4 more weeks, and yes they are happily building units for people who ordered more recently. After 17 weeks they told me the item was built and was being shipped but they have no idea when it would arrive. After 18 weeks they told me the item was going to be shipped an extra 3200 km because that was more efficient. After 21 weeks I finally received...........A Canadian Vibe.Worth the wait. I guess so. But it still doesn't make any sense.

First come, first serve. It's how it should be. I would be a bit perturbed myself if this happened.

I wonder if this company pays attention to any of th FTC laws regarding business. Working in the catalog/warehousing industry I know that we have to handle things very fairly or we would be breaking a lot of rules. Did by any chance the company notify you after the product wasn't available within in 30 days? By law you have to be notified every 30 days on product that hasn't been shipped. You have that time to decide to cancel your order or keep it on hold. There are also many laws concerning holding a customers order if the product is available to ship.
