toys!

Post by philndz »

Finally got a windshield mount for the GPS system...works great and check out the new digital compass...i had gotten so used to the stock digital comp. in my old jeep that i really wanted to get somthing in the vibe. They both go INDIGLO at night. i got the balls to drill in the mounts for my cb radio at the same time. and i discreetly ran 12v to the back of the vibe to wire in ANOTHER AC power plug (converter) and my air compressor which i usually use for the bike tires.

Do you have a magnetic one that you put on when needed?, or is it permanently mounted?I have one collecting dust in my barn that I'd like to install, but unsure of where I can put it.Thanks,Carl

yep...it is magnetic...i run it out of the rear hatch at the top and on to the roof....its not on in the pic but its on the car as i type this...i take it off sometimes b/c it is a long range antenna (about 4.5ft tall) so it can get in the way for around town in drive-through's and such...

well i first discovered it when i joined a jeep club....we use cb's to talk from car to car while ridin the trails......then of course i do sometimes listen in to trucker talk on road trips....especially to and from school (3hrs) b/c they announce where cops are shooting radar by identifying the mile marker that the cop is at.....so...when you get close....you slow down and yey...no ticket!!! i also use the cb's now to communicate when traveling w/ the bike club or just friends in general....i dont own any frs radios but i have two mobile cb units and two handhelds and they are really really convenient!!!

holy cow! some big crome rims to tall smoke stacks and you're ready for the open road! j/k I can't imagine all that clutter up front. I fought my wife on putting the hands free car kit in untill she bought me the same phone so whe could bothe use the cradle!. A happy cockpit is a neat organized simple one.

quote:OK, I gotta ask ... what do you need a CB for?My parents had them when I was growing up, so I'm used to them, but they are handy when you spend close to 2 hours a day, 6 days a week on the road. Yes, you may hear truckers talk about the coppers up ahead, but also hear talk about road conditions, accidents, drunk drivers, etc.

its too much for most peeps....i know that.....but its all "crap" that i use on a daily/weekly basis and i would be inconvenienced w/o it. i too think its a little cluttered in my cockpit but hey if the vibe had a built in compass like my 10!!! year-old jeep then that would help.....i was really dissapointed in a car that is supposed to be thrown at the "active lifestyle" when i saw it had no compass!!

the cb i have already explained and i use it all the time...in fact i used it extensively just this past weekend while on a road trip in convoy....much easier to use than the little frs radios and of course the range is much further too! the compass is somthing i have simply gotten used too. the jeep had that typical digital compass built into the screen on the roof over the rear view mirror.....just like the mini-vans......it became so handy....i do more traveling in my vehicles than daily driving probably....i dont stay put for long.....my car gets a different use to what most of you use your cars for. the compass is (at least for me) something you just get so used to once you have it that you feel lost (no association w/ navigation intended) w/o it! (sorta like a cell phone???)

If i was offered a free trip to the summit of everest (takes a few months to climb) you bet i'd be there in a second. cars?? i do like cars....i like fast cars but i got the vibe to save me money not to spend more money on.....yeah it would be cool to have the supercharger or something.....but nah...its just not where i would spend my money. it would be cool to have it lowered to it handles well but then of course i would get it stuck every weekend trying to get into the backcountry....its hard enough trying to get to my places of solitude w/o the luxury of 4wd. so the whole street racer type thing just isnt my thang.....but im in now way against it....if i had a second car lets say just for the streets (and of course the $ to support it) then you bet it would be lowered, fast, and tight. i respect everyone of you for who you are!

Just my thoughts though.

These are such classics! Things haven't changed a bit since the 4 yrs. I spent in the dorm. Every year we had an official librarian to manage all the adult "literature"....but that's another topic...."wasted"....We had a guy (football player) who would get drunk every weekend and rip the sinks off the wall in the bathroom. HA HA, great fun, especially since it came out of all of our pockets.I've been to MOAB and think its really cool - went 4-wheelin' through arches once in my Dr. friends brand new <1,000 miles pathfinder. Scratched it up on some brush, but he thought his wife did it by parking too close to the rose bushes! You should have heard him telling her to pay more attention when she drives! LOL

Philndz - not to be a hater, but why did you not get the nav? That would've given you the compass and the GPS that is now cluttering your ambience. I know it's expensive, but it would look so cool. I think it even lets you set waypoints and things like that...What did you think of it if you did look at NAV?

Before purchasing my Vibe, I wanted a compass. Many people I know have it in their cars/truck... I think maybe it's a gadget but it's helpful too. So, I went to Canadian Tire and found one I think was OK. It was that: http://www.canadiantire.ca/assortments/ ... nt=primary But, when I received the Vibe, I couldn't figure the place to install it. And I didn't like it a lot. BTW, I was not able to use its mounting system so I decided to bring it back to the store. Therefore, I have a question. Where did you buy yours?

well it would be nice to have the nav of course but i use the gps when im outdoors (away from the car) too. It just wasnt in my budget to spend any more money on the car....the gps is old...ive had it for a few years. i can live w/ a little clutter if it saves major $$$!quote:Philndz - not to be a hater, but why did you not get the nav? Anyone though about getting the electrochromic inside rearview mirror with compass? I noticed toyotaparts4u.com has one for $179. It's an option for the Matrix, but not for us. I wonder if the necessary wiring is there... Regardless, the price is pretty steep for a rearview mirror. Even if it does dim itself. LOL!

They are great....when a cars headlights come up behind you it automatically dims the headlights to a faded blue/green type shade that doesnt bother your eyes...but when the car leaves it returns to the normal view of any standard mirror....no more flipping that little lever! My last car had one of these and it worked really really well. definately a nice luxury!!

Yeah...my Jeep had fairly dark factory tint on all the rear windows....not sure what % but you couldnt see in if you were driving behind it....and the mirror still worked great....the mirrow was stock in that vehicle not an aftermarket piece! arrgh...i think i have downgraded through my cars....my '86 volvo wagon had heated seats....the jeep had power seats and the "MAGIC MIRROR" ....makes the vibe look kinda barebones....but its the best DRIVE by far!!!

I'm thinking that isn't the right picture for the actual mirror, noticed that last night. I think the Matrix one just has the compass and auto-dimming features with no thermometer so to not be redundant. The one mentioned on their site looks similar to the mirrors I've seen advertized in the back of Autoweek by www.mitocorp.com

Otherwise another wire would have to be routed up from the temp sensor to the mirror. Anyways, I only posted what I saw listed on their site.
