Hello, i want to get the SC 4 my base standard transmission vibe but im not sure if i should, i have heard that getting a aftermarket SC or even turbo kills the engine life, that the engine wasnt built to handle the stress cause it didnt come stock with it, can anyone shed any light on the issue?
Search around... there's lots of info. The supercharger was build SPECIFICALLY for the 1zz (assuming you get the GM or TRD one) and if you don't rag the car out and take care of everything like it should be then there shouldn't be any worry about engine reliability after a SC install. Turbos are a little more iffy given they have more variables to consider like buy a kit or go custom and who is going to do the install but they can run reliably if done right
The 1zz handles supercharging very well.I would stay away from turbo if you want something reliable or easy to tune.Turbo gives you the best gains in HP though.Do some searching and decide what best suites your pocket book and HP needs.

you can slap on FI on any engine, however, you will decrease the life out of it. yes, these engines were not built with a s/c or turbo, so of course there will be more wear and tear on them by adding one. however, the GM/TRD supercharger was designed for the 1zz engine and would be pretty reliable. unfortunately, you will only be a little more powerful (hp) than stock but the tq gains are pretty decent. when you modify ANYTHING from it's original factory condition, you run the risk of early detonation. you are tampering with the OEM equipment, and like anything those items will most likely NOT be covered under warranty should something go wrong. if you modify your car you need to learn this early and now:"You have to PAY to PLAY."
I have to laugh seeing that for a topic "Should I get a SC?", (removed).... I think every one out there is ready to kick you if you COULd get one and didn't.Kidding.... do what makes you happy, but I think you should get it
heh, well to avoid all the flyin kicks i will say that atm i cant buy it cause of $$$ issues, lol, but i do wanna save for it, if its not a accident waiting to happen.
Like the others said, it isn't a BAD Idea. It might take some mileage of your engine, but chances are you won't know it. It's a good engine, and the SC is built for it. As long as you don't drive it "hard" all the time, then you should be good. I would give anything for it... other than the $2G's lol
I say go for the turbo..the S/C doesn't give that much HP. As for the 'life of the motor' the old myth is for every 100hp you add you knock 1 year off the life..lol. So with the S/C your taking what...3 months off its life? Which every you go, get the speed limiter removed if your goin FI or its a big waste of denero.
