the left door check on my vibe broke. this is the part that stops the door from swinging out too far. the dealer wants 84 bucks for the part but I think that's outrageous for a small part like that. any body out there with the same problem let me know and how much you paid for that part. thanks.
I remember someone here had them break and replaced them with a homemade version made from leather or cloth, but I can't find the thread. THere was also some discussion about those parts getting deformed and causing interference with the power windows. I agree, $84 is a lot to pay for one of those things. Should be the same as one from a Matrix, you might try asking a Toyota dealership what they would charge for one. I think there is a picture of the part in you are asking about in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... d?id=18049 indicates that there is a TSB out providing a different part number
I had those replaced under warranty... It is disturbing how much they charge for that itty bitty piece, that's a lot of dough for something so flimsy. But there is a new and improved version that was supposed to not have issues with the windows (sometimes, the glass coming down and hitting the door checks will cause the window to explode.) So if you've been having popping, snapping, or binding windows, perhaps bite the bullet and pay the 84 bucks.

I had that part catching and scraping the window tint off the driver's side window. The part finally broke in two and part of it fell into the door itself. Good news is, the window doesn't catch anymore. Bad news is I need to get the tint replaced and perhaps the part replaced too.
