Extra filter in the air filter box

Post by CFD911 »

so I was looking at my air filter box today and I noticed there looks to be an extra filter above my drop in K&N air filter.what is it for?why does it need to be there?if I remove it will it get more air into the engine?anyone notice this and has anyone done anything about it by any chance?

it is an emmisions filter. there was a tread a while back that talked about it. it is supposed to suck up the fuel vaper that seeps out after shutdown. After restarting they get sucked back into the intake. if you search for the thread you can find mor info on it.

I tried to find it but failed also. All I can remember is it was an emission add on.

any special way to remove it, cause it seems fused with the air box, I'd like to avoid breaking it if possible

Are you talking about the white plastic piece with the screen connected to the top piece of the airbox? If so, that is not a filter it is there to ensure smooth straight airflow to the MAF sensor. It can be removed without breaking but there really is no need to. It will not help your performance at all. I know, I have removed it. I put mine back on.
