I would find a respectable roofing contractor if I were you. it's never a good thing to go with Sears, Lowes, Home Depot for big home improvement projects, because they will ALWAYS sub out the work to the LOWEST bidding contractor, then WIPE their hands of any problems because YOUR contract ends up being with the guy they subbed it to.
don't use Sears i used to sell roofs,Sears usually over bids about 30% what the local guys charge. Find a GAF Contractor they will give you a good price and to become elite with GAF they need to be in business for 10+ years, also when you getting estimates ask about other roofs they done in the area if they stand by there word they will give you a few address and you can look at there work and told to the home owner about how they didAlways get 3 estimates, if you just going with sears becuase you can charge show them the other 3 estimates you may get them to come down on priceAny more questions pm me I'll try to help out the best i can

I partially disagree. And though I'm sure everyone is thinking "he's biased," I know the process. At lowe's, they don't hire just anyone. All contractors go through a very rigourous and intense screening process. If they pass that, they then can become a lowe's installer. All lowe's installs are guaranteed for some period of time, and are backed by the installer as well as the store.I can't speak to the other brands...Some of our subs make so much money and are so busy doing installs for us, they don't do anything else but lowe's installs. So even though they're technically independent contractors, their business is solely what we provide them with.

The fact is that they are innundated with Lowe's leads and have to work them to keep their contract with you. Of course they're busy and of course they're only able to do Lowe's installs. For what it's worth, Lowe's >>> Home Depot.Don't even get me started on windows.

While the money the make per job may be lower, it's the volume that makes up the difference. We charge less for installation than most independent subs would, so we get more installs for them.

Let me guess - Pella's Thermastar (built by Viking, not Pella..) or Atrium? $109 on average per window, but how much is the window? How much of that $109 goes to the contractor? Also, what's the average cost per window? Just curious.
A few years ago I got a quote from Home Depot for a roof job using the GAF system. It was $8,000. The next quote was from an independent GAF certified roofing company. It was $6,000. This was pretty much an apples to apples comparison as they were both doing essentially the same thing with the same shingles. The crew doing the work spoke only Spanish but that seems ot be the norm for roofing installers in this area. That $2,000 bought me new oversize seamless gutters and downspouts for the entire house. This roofing contractor was high on that bid - went with a company that does only gutters.

Windows are "the other end" of the store.
