Engine Low Idle issue?????

Post by lordsaber »

Hello all, i have a 04 base model vibe 5-spd standard. The only upgrades i have on it is a Ingen CAI and a magnaflow exhaust with a 2.5 inch pipe diameter. When im at an idle i notice my engine idles as low as 500, nvr higher then 1000 tho. It even idles low enough to spudder at times, but never stalls. I use premium octane gas as well. Im not sure what the issue is, if there is any at all. Should i get my sensors recalibrated? lol i dont know if i need to do anything. Anyone have any advice?

Mine was running pretty rough, shaking the whole car at idle... The dealer said it was idling too slow and cleaned the throttle body, which helped. Not sure how a crudded up throttle body would make it idle rough, but apparently it did.

like CP said, maybe the throttle body is dirty, maybe the MAF is dirty, especially if you overoiled the CAI filter, not sure if that would make it idle low, or just poorly. There is also an idle adjustment screw. Has it always idled low, did it start as a result of one of your mods, or has it gradually dropped from where it should be to where it is now? Also, there has been some debate about it, but imho the power benefit from burning premium gas in a NA base engine is limited to the effect of the weight reductioon in your wallet

Sounds like the IAC valve.I had the same problem.Cleaning them sometimes works, sometimes not.Has your idle always been around 500 rpm.using super will not cause that problem, cuz I use super but I have a uni-chip.Anyways clean your MAF sensor first(disconnect your battery before removing it)with non chlorinated brake cleaner or plastic safe contact cleaner. Then clean the throttle-body,then go after the IAC if you still have the problemhttp://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=26647

It's normal for the engine to idle lower after installing the cai. Around 600 to 800rpm The engine is breathing easier so it doesn't have to 'work' as hard. But below 500rpm isn't right. Something's dirty.

Dirty TB's can cause bad idling. It can disrupt the airflow through the opening and clog up the flapper plate. Get a toothbrush and some TB cleaner.
