I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe with a 1.8L 4cyl. 1ZZ-FE engine. I currently have aftermarket 2-1/4" piping, high flow cat, 24"x5" resonator and a Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler(the "s" designed one, not straight thru).I would like to keep my Dynomax muffler, but replace my 24"x5" resonator with a smaller 18" resonator and an additional 18" muffler in it's place. So I would have a smaller resonator and two mufflers. Would this set-up help make my exhaust quieter (inside and out) than my current set-up?ORShould I keep my big (removed) resonator and get a different muffler maybe like a 3 chamber sound cancelling muffler like a Flowmaster Delta Flow 60 Series? Most people would think my exhaust is quiet enough now but I would like it to be more quiet especially at lower rpm and in the interior of the car. Thanks!

By going smaller resonator you will lose HP.Actually using the 2 mufflers, you will lose power also. So,I asked that because if you were doing any major mods, that would affect the route you would take.Your sig says "something on it's way"so I figured you were doing something top secret.By the ways,I like your new sig.

If I go the route of a smaller resonator and muffler, the additional resonator and muffler would both be a straight thru design that would not decrease my hp by much if at all. Thanks on the sig, btw.

Can I ask you why you want to hold on to the dynamax.I would suggest you keep everything else and replace the muffler with a quieter one,it's less expensive.

Ive had the Dyno ST on my Saturn, it was a good option for the sound. If you want quieter changing out the resonator may help a bit but the muffler may need a swap. Look into a Thermal R&D, they may be a slight bit more expensive. Best exhaust I ever had was the Apexi World Sport II. It was a full catback though. Fit perfectly, looked almost stock, sounded stock at low RPMs, but was crisp, clean and turned many heads when up in the power band. I used to have kids pull next to me and ask about it cause it sounded so good!Best $400 I ever spent!
You mean a twin muffler system. that would def. be quiter than what you have now. You could possibly even keep the ST if you wanted. My girls last car 00 Cabrio had the twin muffler system on it.
The resonator does quiet down the noise. And you have a large 48" resonator now,you pose a good question.I would try the smaller resonator and replace the dynomax with the Flowmaster Delta Flow 60 Series. That would drop the decibels considerably.

Quote, originally posted by BlueCrush »I have no idea where I got 48" from. That would be half the length of the car.So you really do have a custom extra-short Vibe as shown in your avatar. I always thought that was just a photoshop effect.
Thanks to someone on another forum who stated the obvious,I will be installing sound deadening on the entire floor of my Vibe this spring. This will be the cheapest alternative to get the sound I am wanting. Thanks guys for all of your suggestions!

I could have told you that, but you said exhaust .But the soundproofing is expensive.I did mine with dynomat,I did the floor pans, front and back and the hatch area and it cost me $300 and I did it myself, but I should do the doors next. There was a guy on MO that used a roll on sound proofer that he said worked good to.

You always find good deals.I spent so much money for nothing.Use the mat type,it looks better,to me the liquid is messy.Bump for anyone wanting to sound proof their Vibe.

Well, I went with 50sqft of FatMat from Ebay for $80 shipped. It should be enough to do the interior floors and cargo floor. It will arrive next week and I'll install it next weekend.

General rule, the larger the muffler the quieter the sound. Remember that large muffler that you had taken off to replace it with that cherry bomb you now have.
