Need some splicing help...
Hey gang -- I'm installing a GM12-AUXv2 audio input device for my stereo and it's coming along pretty well, but I'm a little confused about how to splice the power and ground wires for the AUX unit into the 12-pin connector on the back of the radio. I bought some quick splices (based on a recommendation in the AUX install thread) but my AUX unit has these little terminals on the end of the power and ground lines that seem to get in the way of using the quick splice. I think the metal things are called solderless terminals or something?... they are flat pieces of metal sticking out the ends of the wire -- one is a ring and the other is a rectangle with a hole in it. Am I suppose to just cut these off if I'm using the quick splice? Or should I be doing something else with them. I have absolutely no experience with anything electrical, so any specific instructions someone can offer on how to splice the power and ground wires into the harness would be great. Thanks,Smitty

If you are using what I think to splice in, then yes, cut the terminals off the ends of the wires. Your connector should be a hinged plastic housing with a metal blade inside that pierces both wires when crimped and bridges them together. If you haven't used this type of connector before, it's easy. locate the wire you want to splice into, line it up in the outer groove(away from hinge) on the quick connect, push the wire from the AUX unit into the inner groove, snap the connector closed and use a pair of pliers to push the blade into the wires. There should be a outer cover that snaps over the connector to keep it closed. wrap a little tape over the connector after it's snapped closed. This will keep it from vibrating open. Make sure to match the wires up correctly, the instructions should identify them. Good Luck.
