Hey everyone! I would like to make a custom patch after my grandfathers P-51 Mustang Fighter plane named Mary Anne. The name derived from Mary is mother and Anne his wife. No one in the family knows how the planes name was laid out (no pic) but I would like to make my own. I have these suggestions from other P-51's. Suggestions or photo shop ideas are welcome! Thanks,
My wife thinks I should not have a woman in the pic because that is too (removed)-ish! However if done right, I would like to keep a woman and not just a name.
There are some pics of Mustangs with names but no babes at http://www.cebudanderson.com/357nfm01.htm Since the plane was named after his mom and his wife, a hottie there might be kinda weird.

It's good art work, too.Quote, originally posted by joatmon »Since the plane was named after his mom and his wife, a hottie there might be kinda weirdhaha good call joatSo Toolguy, you're just needing some kind of design revolving around "Mary Anne"?
Yeah I suppose a woman would not be in good taste however like Rosie The Riveter, she means business and is not tramp like. And yeah Ano_Vibe, just looking or asking what others would create.I can always do just the name like Big Beautiful Doll I suppose. Good suggestions too Joat!

Yeah that is the kind of thing, I can then transfer it to a leather patch or something... I friend of mine has a modern screen printing press and he said he can print on leather.

That plane has a lot of detail for a 3" patch, but would be great on a 10" patch on the back of a jacket.EDIT2: MiVibe-ToolGuy should also let us know if there is any limitation on the number of colors for the patch.
Was there also a squadron insignia? Combining the two would add a little history. Cool project. I enjoy collecting WW2 memorabilia. BTW...Rosie the riveter is Hot!

Dang that is real nice too! Thanks, Ano!To make it really like his I would have to give you the letters off the model plane I have he had built when still alive to replace the C on your pic. As far as a size, I really am not sure since I have not done this before... I would say at least 3 inches, 5 max? 10 would be sweet but may be costly, I dunno...And JohnC, my grandfathers squadron was called Spittin Kitten and I have a leather patch for that sewn on his reproduction flight jacket which I have.He was:15th Air Force (got a patch on line for that on-line)52nd Fighter Group (got patch as mentioned above, it was custom made years ago in Ohio)5th Fighter Squadron Maybe I should offer a prize for all the members effort!!!! How about a free set of clear fog lamp covers! (that is if you do not already have them or I suppose you could give them to a friend) OK yeah, I will do that! No one works for free, right!

This will be fun That plane I used is just a piece of clipart so just let me know all the specifics and I'll get to work How do you want those numbers incorporated into the patch? Ask your screen-printer friend what Formats, Colors & Resolution would be best for him to work with, too
i couldn't even come close to what the guys are already doin. it looks great tho

As a WWII buff, I'd like to salute you grandfather for being a great American hero. Is your grandmother still around? I was wondering what her opinion might be. I'm a big fan of the pin-up girl artwork on the old war planes. I don't think they're whorish at all, and I'm sure your grandfather thought your grandmother was a hottie. I think it would be a great tribute to her, and I admire what you're doing by keeping your grandfather's memory and his service alive. To appease your wife, I would chose a design where the woman is wearing an adequate amount of clothing

OK I had to correct myself and the other post. My grandpas groups were these:15th Air Force 52nd Fighter Group 5th Fighter SquadronHere is the Fighter Group patch on the jacket... It is 4.5 inches long and I think I would like the Mary Anne patch to be the same size or say 4 inches.
And thanks K-NINE! Yes my grandmother is still alive and in Ohio. I never did really know much about my grandfather in WWII since he rarely talked about it. I understand why however I have learned more about his military background now then when he was alive. I do wear his jacket in pride and only see it right I add a patch of the plane. He flew 50 missions in Europe and the military wanted him to fly again. He said no way, went home married my grandma and went to college.

EDIT: Then again, you're looking to make a PATCH. I've never seen a WWII patch w/ a pin-up in it haha.
I love the Spitten Kitten patch! Your grandfather is very proud! God has a special place in heaven for our war veterans.

Here's my fixed entry... I wish I had more time to work on it but to get the plane like your grandfathers in this form would take me a while. I've done a little to the color and fixed the "0". The plane would have to be "dumbed down" to go onto a patch like Silver said it's a lot of detail...This is the scaled down version. Full size it's 5'x5'
With much deliberation and sharing with family members I have decided to go with silver_vibes suggestion. With one small tweak and I will IM him on that... I also have shrunken down silver_vibes first 'Mary Anne' name and am going to physically attach it to the model plane so it too will finally have its name back. That will be easy and I will be able to that one quickly. Making the actual patch is the next step for the design below and that may take a few... It was hard and I really want to thank everyone who shared their design with me! I appreciate it and so does my family! You are all great and very kind to spend some time on this! Thanks again! If I have not helped you in the past on the site possibly I can in the future with fog lamps, service manual procedures or general car information, just ask! I really believe in paying it forward and with the Internet I have helped others and others have helped me. Quote, originally posted by silver_vibe »

I did like yours Joat and you did incorporate the 15th Air Force which I already had a patch for! And sure thing Silver_vibe I will post a pic of the patch when done!
Here is a pic of the model plane with the name I did for it. It finally now has its name! The patch is coming soon! The plan is to have an embroidered one made.
