I noticed today that my emerg brake handle is really sloppy when its' all the way down.Never use it on my auto and was surprised that there was that much play.Could some of you with autos check this for me.Thanks

it's probably you're shoes..mine was really sloppy too when i had barely any left on the rear shoes..and once i changed them..my e-brake clicks two or 3 times and it's tight now..should have a look at the brakes..or maybe it's just the tensioner
When it's up it's fine. But when it's down,so the rears brakes aren't on,there seems to be a lot of side to side play in the handle, almost loose.I just wanted to see if this was normal.I'm not always driving the Vibe,so sometimes I miss little things like this.

ohh..i gotcha now..take the center console out and check if it's loose..could be the actual handle thats loose..or the base of the whole thing..not sure how hard it is to take apart..wait til the meet and i'll rip it all apart lol
we'll have a look..i've had just my driver seat and cluster in my car once..was fun times..im sure it's easy to get the console out aswell..i'll be sure to bring my tools
i have an 04 vibe auto. i've noticed that also. my e-brake handle has some side to side play when it's down. i also don't like the fact that i have to have the handle all the way up to engage the brake, is there an easy way to tense this up? i care more about the brake than the play.
the steps to adjust the parking brake are:1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL2. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE3. INSTALL REAR WHEELTorque: 103 NVm (1,050 kgfVcm, 76 ftVlbf)4. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL(a) Pull the parking brake lever to the fully applied position, and count the number of clicks.Parking brake lever travel: 5 – 8 clicks at 196 N (20 kgf, 44.1 lbf)5. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL(a) Remove the rear console box sub–assy(b) Loosen the lock nut and turn the adjusting nut until the levertravel turns correct.(c) Tighten the lock nut.Torque: 5.0 NVm (55 kgfVcm, 44 in.Vlbf)(d) Install the rear console box sub–assyYou could just do step 5, but remember to adjust the parking brake back if you have the rear brake shoes replaced
The cnter consol is very easy to remove. The hardest part is just taking all your stuff out of it, I don't remember the sizes, but it's only 4 (maybe 6) bolts. I haven't done it in a while, since I put the neons under my seat last year, but taking them off only look about 10 minutes.... and that's caue I was drining a beer and talking with a friend the whole tme.
the first steps in http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=13711 are about removing the console, it does look pretty easyI checked mine, I have about 1/4 inch side to side free play at the tip when the parking brake is released (handle down)
