Butterfly valve questions...

Post by Greg100575 »

hmm i checked into removing the b-fly valve off my Vibe GT. i pulled the top of the airbox off, i see the valve and the filter thingie that moves up and down.does the bottom half of the airbox need to come off to remove the b-fly valve?? if you remove it, isnt there going to leave a huge hole in the airbox?? do i supposed to just remove the the flap thingie to the whole round valve??and finally, is it worth it?Gregand yeah i posted this at matrixvibe.net too

ok i see, but you would think its going to be sucking in the hot air off the engine. which could be a bad thing i reckon

ok for those interested in the b-fly valve for Vibe GT here is my findings....i removed the bottom half of the airbox from the car. i discovered that the b-fly valve is NOT removeable from the airbox(without cutting or some other mod). so i put it all back together and started the engine, i noticed that the valve is closed on idle, simply removing the hose that hooked to the b-fly valve will force the filter to remain open all the time.be sure to plug the lose hose with a nail or screw i tested driving around for a while and found NO difference in power or sound, ill continue to test drive it today and if i notice anything different ill post my results

its not worth messing with it, the valve doent come out like it does on the celicia'sall you can really do is unplug the hose going to it and that will force it to stay open all the timeyou will NOT hear or notice any differencegood luckGreg

If you remove the valve in the air box, yes your going to be able to feed the engine a little more air but it might actually hurt performance since it will be sucking in hot air from under hood. There isn't a CAI that anyone makes that I know of yet but you can make your own and save quite a bit of money doing it. I made one and it made a big difference. This link will explain how to do it. http://www.teamdelsol.com/howto/coldair/diycoldair.htm
