of course, it goes without saying that this thread is about where to legally download free mp3s, since forum rules would prevent discussion of any illegal activity The PC I use all the time is subject to random scans from a hostile network admin person, so I am a lot safer not having any kind of p2p software on it unless it is oficially sanctioned, and since none are, I have none.
Definitely! As long as it's legal and non-copyright, you're fine to discuss it here. If this heads toward illegal downloads, this thread will be locked.
The sad part is, for years that is all I did was download it "illigally", using who knows what (back in the knappster days), but now, it's so much easier to use I-tunes or soemthing and pay the $1 for it. Usually I get music from freinds, but I either buy the CD know or buy the MP3, it's so much easier and I don't worry about viruses from a p2p site.
There aren't any truly free sites. All of them come with some form of adware or spyware. I can give a link to a dirt cheap site. Try: http://www.allofmp3.com It is a russian download site that I have used for over a year without a problem. most songs are 10-15cents each. entire albums for $1.50-$2.00 album. They give you several options for downloading (mp3, wma, ogg, etc.) It's not free, but real cheap.
I've ran across a few independent guys who put their stuff out there for free... It's out there, just a pain in the (removed) to find sometimes. I'm just using iTunes anymore for my commerical music, quick/painless/relatively cheap.

blah, heres the linkhttp://www.mp3.com/free_music/...musicIndependent artists post their music here for free download. But otherwise getting the "other" mp3's for free can be done many ways, of course for $.99 a song (and most cd's dont have all good tracks) its not a bad deal.
