I just purchased a used '04 Vibe and in searching on this board about speaker problems, I became aware of the Moon 'n Tunes package. I just went out to my car and lo and behold, there's an amp under the passenger seat! The right door woofer sounds scratchy like it's been blown and the left tweeter is dead as a doornail. I suspect the last owner beat the speakers to submission. I thought I'd put in a set of Infinity Reference component speakers (passive crossovers included), but in learning that my car has an amp with built in crossover, that doesn't seem like a good choice anymore. What are my options in the $100-200 dollar range for direct replacement/upgrade speakers? Crutchfield is useless, what will fit? Can I get OEM replacement speakers for a reasonable price? I imagine with all the drivers firing, the factory system sounds decent. What are the odds that the amp is blown instead of the speakers? Thanks for any suggestions. PhreonP.S. Does anyone know what the amp crossover frequency is? And are the speakers 4 ohm nominal or oddball?
The speakers are 2 ohms, i replaced mine with polk db components.they sounded ok on stock power but came alive when i amped them.I think jbl makes some 2 ohm speakers that should be ok for you
I just replaced my fronts with Memphis 6.5s and what a difference. With my Sony CDX-GT500, Fosgate subs and amp, and Sony 6.5s in the rear doors, the new Memphis 6.5's brought the mids to life. My wife could clearly hear the music while testing from over 50' away through the walls of my apartment building.
