Our Sherrif Deputies will be driving station wagons

Post by AZViking »

http://www.argusleader.com/app...04012Sheriff’s patrol cars to look more like station wagonsPublished: April 4, 2007Patrol cars in Minnehaha County will have a different look.Bids awarded this week will replace eight sedans with a vehicle that looks more like a station wagon, Sheriff Mike Milstead said.Minnehaha County is purchasing eight 2007 Dodge Magnums from the Billion Network’s dealership in Salem.Cost will be $166,616, minus $1,500 for the trade-in value of eight old patrol cars. The patrol cars had to be rebid after no one responded to an earlier request for bids.Bids for eight Dodge Chargers came in lower, but they did not meet the minimum specified cubic feet, said Vicki Hicks of the sheriff’s department. The added room in the Magnums will work out well for deputies who are part of the new EMT project and must carry additional equipment, Milstead said.

"to look more like station wagons"? The article should have said "will be station wagons" I used to like the look of the Magnums, but the more I see of them the less I want one. Seems like they'd be a great vehicle for cops though. The front end certainly looks mean.

How big of a jump kit do they have! I used to carry one in my Geo Storm GSi. Had everything except for a defibulator and still had plenty of room for my spare bunker gear. Maybe they're gonna transport patients in thier Magnums? Here in Appleton, they switched to the Ford Fusion for squad cars.

state troopers in texas are getting magnums too. the cve (commercial vehicle) folks are getting them first, and from what i hear they're none too happy about having to pull their scales out from under the low lift gate.

Exactly how many arrests does that county make in a day that they need the extra room? On their way back from issuing speeding tickets they can stop and pick up their dry cleaning and some groceries and the kids from soccer practice.
