Quote »Fire prompts evacuation of Duluth hotelAssociated PressLast update: March 30, 2007 – 5:19 AMDULUTH, Minn. — The Edgewater Hotel and Waterpark was evacuated Thursday night after an imitation volcano at the center of a swimming pool began to smoke and then started on fire. No injuries were reported.A hotel guest says the flames rose three to four feet in the air and there was a lot of smoke in the water park. The fire, which started around 6:40 p.m., forced some guests to flee into the parking lot in their bare feet and swimsuits. Hotel workers gave them blankets and directed guests to the nearby Perkins and Black Woods restaurants. Firefighters were on the scene for about an hour.A hotel worker later described the blaze as an electrical fire.
