The new Vibe had just 400 miles on it this past friday when another car served into my lane and I swerved to avoid him and struck a curb with the front wheel. I have the 16" alum. wheels and my car has the tire pressure monitoring system on it. I found a pefect used 2005 wheel in a local salvage yard but how does the tire pressure monitoring system work and can it be adpated to a 2005 wheel?
the tire presure ms.. has nothing to do with your rim and tire choice from year to year. You will be fine with the prev year rim and tire.... the TPMS works off of speed and amount of turns per wheel . It measures the time it takes to make a rev. if one tire is low it spins faster cuz it's smaller in turn it will set off the TPMS, that is only if you set it... lol.. with my 2006 it had to be set first.. didn't come set... read your manual and it will tell you what you need to do to set the system.

according to GMJAP in http://forums.genvibe.com/zero...72896Quote »The system works using the ABS brake wheel speed sensors. As a tire's pressure changes, it affects the diameter of the tire and thus its rotational speed. When the system is reset & recalibrated, it records the relative speeds of all the tires. If one becomes low, its speed relative to the others changes and it pops a warning. If that is how it works, then there should be nothing special about the wheel, edit, grrr, keith beat me by a minute
Sorry to hear. Luckily there wasn't too much damage. I believe the Tire Pressure Monitoring system is based on the # of rotations each wheel makes. When all are the same pressure they all have the same # of rotations. When one is lower than the others it will rotate more than the others setting off the Tire Pressure warning light. It shouldn't matter what tires or wheels you have on because I think it is built into the ABS. Of course, it could be that I have no idea what I an talking about. It sounds good though. EDIT: Ha, I'm late to the party, but I was right. lol.
