The other day I had my first opportunity to actually use my onstar, which failed miserably. While putting my 1 year old in the car, he grabbed my keys and locked the doors. I then closed the passenger door (not realizing the doors were locked), and ended up with a child locked in the car with the keys. So I called onstar, but after several attempts they were unable to remotely unlock the car. They did send a tow truck which was able to break into the car with only a couple little scratches on the trim around the drivers side window. Luckily the boy was calm and the temperature was cool otherwise I would have had to break a window instead of waiting for road side assistance. Anyway when I got home I was furious and contacted onstar to find out what the problem was. After several attempts to remotely control the car, a technician got on the line and said my software needed to be updated, which he did remotely. After about 5 minutes of updating the onstar, he was able to instantly open the door locks.I would suggest that if you have onstar you might call to make sure you don't have the same issues. Ask them to open your locks and beep your horn to make sure it works. I can't believe the first person from onstar wasn't able to update the system and open the car when I really needed it. I have learned my lesson about handling my keys with my boy, as well as relying on onstar.Loren
