Found a very annoying problem.

Post by DopeVibeGT »

When you take a corner fast or hit the brake, the seatbelt locks up, even after you stop turning or brake. You have to tug on the seatbelt to let you go. When this happens and you stop at a stop sign and try to lean forward to look for cars, it stops you. This, to me, is a slight pain. My GA does something like this, but ONLY during the action. Once your done, it lets you go.

It does seem like the seat belt mechanism is a little sensative, but not to the point that I have found it annoying. I would just be careful not to brake to hard if possible or swing corners too fast. I try not to do either of those because of how hard it is on a car.

That's the way it's supposed to work. It's an inertia stop. When the car comes to a quick stop and the belts are pulled, a mechanism stops it. The car doesn't know the difference between a crash and you just stopping hard.

You will come around a corner and there will be an officer slowing people down so he can inspect you for seat belts. If you aren't wearing one another officer writes you up.Last fall there a fellow went missing driving to work out of town. It took them 5 months to find his car in the bush, and his body 30 feet away where he ejected himself. Good luck!

quote:Hey Yank, you're choiceIf you don't see the logic behind wearing a seat belt it's your thing, but please tell us when you get on the road and where you're going!I never said I dont wear it I just said I hate wearing it. For the fact the original posters said. It helps when you dont "hang yourself" making sure cars are not in the way when you make your moves on the road. Remember you forget I survived a 40 mph head on collision without one. Hence a Genvibe.com member.

quote:The passenger seat does this all the time and then it gets tighter and tighter. That's only if you pull the seat belt all the way out 'till it stops. Then it will go into a retract-only mode. This is for securing a child seat. And actually, this works for every seatbelt in the car except the drivers belt.

Whether I stop fast or not is irrelevant. I dont even have to stop that hard for it to do that. I know they are designed to do that, as I stated, but this is the first vehicle that has kept me locked up until I tugged on the thing. It's not a big thing, just annoying. More so than the dribbling rear window washer. Not wearing a seatbelt isnt very smart, but thats another topic.

I have started noticing this too! It didn't do it until recently and it locks up when braking-and NOT braking fast! I do feel it to be a safety hazard, because you can't turn to look for traffic-especially when merging. Nice to know someone else is having the same problem-I thought I was losing it! (but mine was one of the first manufactured 2512th so maybe this was an early defect)

Seatbelts...

Post by Myself »

Yeah, same here, if I go to reach for something on the passenger side floor as I come to a stop, the belt stops me. This happens regularly. I'm religious about my seatbelt use, and there's no way I'd go without simply to avoid this little annoyance. However, I can't blame my rear-seat passengers if they want to go beltless. The rear belts are permanently in retract-only mode! I've met Boa Constrictors who were less aggressive. This is supremely uncomfortable, and it means my passengers are liable to become projectiles in a collision, because I wouldn't wish those evil belts on anyone.Another poster suggested they only go retract-only when they've been fully extended. Not so! Mine are always ratcheting deathgrips, no matter what I do. Is this a design misfeature or are my rear belt mechanisms defective?

Same way you bypass the flashing 12:00 on a VCR...electrical tape...But I would never tell anyone how to bypass that light, because I swear by seatbelts...If I hadn't worn mine in my sunfire, I would've gone through the windshield during my crash, and flown over the barrier into oncoming traffic, and been dead for sure...As for this retraction/lock problem, mine works fine. When it does kick in, just back away from the seatbelt a bit and it will release again.
