Hello,My birthday is in two weeks and I'm getting the Magnaflow Exhaust (yay!). That means I'll have the DC Sports Header and the exhaust, but the damn stock cat. I asked a muffler shop about replacing it and they said they couldn't if it wasn't defective. How can I get around this? What model Magnaflow could I use? Anyone replace theirs on their own? Thanks!
unless you know how to weld, installing a high-flow cat should probably be handled be a professional. but your not supposed to replace your cat unil you are over 80,000miles, or your car is over 8 years old, or if it is damaged/stolen. all according to EPA policies. it sucks. and I think just about every shop abbides to these rulesp.s I know a few people that have taken a hammer to their cat, just so they could replace it.....but don't do something like that, it's not worth it. lol. unfortunately, that is probably your only "way around it".
hmm. i don't know. i knocked out all my cats in my car. i'm running totally catless. no it won't pass IM either. not sure on the NA cars anymore, but i know Freestyle was running straight pipes out the back of his vibe gt. looked and sounds GREAT! so, can't see why (unless you are concerned w/ emissions) that would be a problem for you too.

i knocked the uppipe one out myself (took about a week to do since it was a hard compressed metal). Phil got the other 2 out in 15 mins since they were more like a ceramic type material. just a sledge hammer and chisel... tap tap tap... and they were out.
yeah, removing the cat altogether on ur own is what Petrucci should do. cuz u can't really install a high-flow cat on ur own, and most shops are pretty strict about the EPA policies.
like i said, i have no idea how you would even replace the cat on the vibe. in fact, i'm not even sure where the cat is located! LOL i know we have Phil's still, just have a catback exhaust. on mine, i have a catback exhaust, but since i'm going catless through the down and mid-pipes, pretty much considered a full turboback.
Don't worry about the cat. With the header and Magnaflow you'll be happy with the sound and performance. A high flow cat would make a tiny unnoticable difference.
