rear molded mudflaps

anyone still have there instructions for installing rear mudflaps?i put them on and threw mine away ,then noticed they were not quite straight from the rear,i can't figure out what i did wrong.or if no one has them any idea where i might find them?thanks alot

It did take two attempts to get them on right for the rear, the fronts were a piece o' cake. IIRC, the instructions weren't all that great. Anyways, per the instructions... Jacked the rear up, one side at a time. Removed the tire, positioned the guard, and drilled the two holes through the cladding around the wheel well like the instructions said. IIRC, I don't remember seeing anything about removing a fastener from the bottom of the bumper. Dad was helping me with the project, he didn't notice it either. The fastener at the bottom was pushing the splash guards down a little, so they didn't line up right. Took the splash guards off, and removed the bottom fasteners from the bumper, (one one each side) drilled new holes in the cladding, and put the bolt/nut provided with the guards through the hole where the fastener went (sort of a pain to get that in.)The end result, check the pic attached. I took these yesterday when I was on my Vibe picture-takin' spree. Good luck, let me know if you need any more info!

That was the exact same thing that I had to do. It doesn't mention anything about taking out that body fastner undernieth. I followed the directions and had to drill a second set of holes on the one side. Good thing that the mudflaps covered up the holes. I saved my directions, too. I wanted to write to GM and tell them how badly the directions sucked for such a simple procedure. I'd love to "school" the genius engineer who wrote those lousy directions on how to write installation procedures for mudflaps.

Whew... Glad I wasn't alone. Whoever wrote those instructions.. LOL!

the directions were quite lousy,where did you put the washer?

The washer went on the bottom, between the head of the bolt and the mudflap.

Probably, they were written overseas, and poorly translated.

I really don't think it could be a matter of translation, those directions were just flat out WRONG! They told you to use a size drill bit that you didn't need and the procedure was all backwards. If you work from the bottom up, everything is fine. If you follow the directions, it won't fit. A big DUH ! to whoever wrote those directions.I know that GM has its' own in-house people who write the owner's manuals. I met one of the guys who wrote the manual for the Fiero at the national Fiero show a few years ago. He was a GM employee. Some idiot with half a brain is out there writing directions for mudflap installation. They probably messed up a big project and got demoted to "mudflap installation direction writer". We got stuck with their poor handiwork that caused me to drill 2 unnecessary holes in my car.
