From the tsunami back in 2004, to the most recent earthquakes and now a plane crash. It seems Indonesia is always having crap happen. I'm sure it happens everywhere too but the news seems to love Ind. for some reason.
For one thing, it's huge. Over 17,000 islands and it's the world's fourth largest country (population wise).Considering that it's all islands you can guess that it's in a very geologically active area - volcanos, earthquakes, tsunamis are all part of this. It's also a borderline 3rd world country - with that many people and not much money, transportation disasters (ferry sinkings are common) are going to happen relatively frequently.

I do remember ferry sinkings in the news as well. I know it is a geologically active place due to where it sits and that they are islands (i.e. old volcanos). Thanks Geo 101 at URI, lol!But I guess it just seems freakish that alongside all those natural occurences that all these things like ferries, plane crashes happen as well and as often. But like you said, it's a practical 3WC so things are more run down and less reliable.
