The debate on which oils is best for our vehicles is/will always be ongoing. However, to those of you out there that run two stroke motors that require you to premix your fuel/oil.....do you run a standard two stroke oil and mix to the recommended ratio or are you currently using a synthetic 2 stroke oil like Amsoil? Some of my "toys" that require me to premix are a leaf blower, weed eater, chain saw and a ice auger. Different requirements for ratio blends. I have since moved to a synthetic (I believe it was a 50:1 ratio that replaced everything) and it worked well and the ratio was easy to deal with.Anyone here ever try the Amsoil Sabre (I believe that is what it is called) I was given some of this and apparently it is their high end stuff that you mix 100:1 for all your two stroke applications.....Anyone using this? A bit nervous to try it....I have heard from people that swear by the stuff and that it will be plenty fine...and I have heard from some people that say it's nothing but trouble.....I am down to my last half tank full in my ice auger....so it's about time to mix up another gallon of 2 stroke fuel. Now I come to those of you who run two strokes......what are your thoughts/opinions?
It is good oil but I wouldn't try to outguess the guys tht designed the equipment. Just use it 50:1 like they say. You could ask this at Bob is the oil guy. Just google BITOG.Cheers
A big advantage of synthetic 2-stroke oil is that it burns a lot cleaner. You get a lot less carbon build up inside the combustion chamber. This is especially important in small engines like a weedeater or chainsaw. I have run synthetic 2-stroke in my 1981 PE250 Suzuki since day one. Yes they had the stuff back in 1981. I used Silkolene until recently when I haven't been able to find it. Regular oil called for 20:1 and Silkolene was 40:1. I would think that by using 1/2 as much oil that the pollution emissions would be lower also. The biggest drawback is the price. Because I use so much mix for my chainsaws, I use regular oil but the bike gets synthetic.
Chrisp-The current "stuff" I am using isn't the Amsoil Sabre. Current stuff calls for a mixture of 50:1......however, the Amsoil Sabre calls for a 100:1.
