The only one I know of in Omaha is closing. I rarely go in there for anything. Most computer hardware I buy I get online anyway. I'm just bummed that they closed the Circuit City here about two years ago.
All of them in my hometown area are closing (Mich) But the ones near me are not, I don't see how they stay open with all of the computer Venues that are around here...

Whew, in luck here. I go there for when I'm not wanting to wait for days to get something... Instant gratification, although I would have spent more at CompUSA than other online places.I dig the instore pickup thing, that comes in handy. Last time I did that, they messed up and didn't have my order ready (I gave them all of 9 hours, I know that wasn't enough time. )) so they gave it to me for 50% off. Of course it was just a $10 item. If they go, I'll have to go to Indianapolis or Cincinnati to pick up an Apple keyboard when I end up trashing mine again. Their Apple secction is teeny tiny, BUT none of those other bozos in town sell the stuff. Some of their prices can really be ridiculous... But I'd rather go there than Worst Buy when it comes to getting computer crap from bigname retailers locally.

I have 2 within 10 miles of me. Looks like one of them is closing. The one that's closing I haven't been to in quite a while. It was only occasionally that they'd have something that the newer store didn't have (out of stock or what not). Glad it's not both of them. I actually shop there frequently. They usually have decent sales.Plus, they price match, which has come in handy on a few occasions because I absolutely REFUSE to shop at Best Buy (and will gladly share my reasons if anybody cares to hear them).
You've never been shy about sharing your opinions before! Just kidding around, I like reading your posts.

The sale is nothing to write home about, 10%-20% off everything. But I did manage to pick up a new cordless rechargable mouse for $30 bucks. All sales are final though, so beware of that.
LOLWell, the not so short version is this.Went to Best Buy to buy a laptop. Liked a display model they had, purchased it along with an extended warranty. After we'd paid for it, they took it to their service dept. to check it out. Turned out it had a bad hard drive. Might have been easier if they'd done this before we bought it, but, fair enough. Manager said he'd give us another model (of the same brand, Compaq) at the same price.Did a return on the bad laptop, purchased the good one along with the extended service contract for that laptop.A day later, I realize they never refunded for the ESP of the display, so, I took the receipt back. They canceled out the contract and gave me a refund. So far so good.6 or so months later, started having problems with the laptop, decided to take it back to Best Buy for service. They kept it for about a month, then called and said it was ready. Drove there only to find that after a month, they'd never fixed it. Can't remember now WHY they didn't fix it. But, they didn't. Went up, whatever the problem was I resolved and they sent it in for service again.Kept it for another month. Called and said it was ready. Drove there only to find that after a month, they STILL hadn't fixed it. This time, they told me the extended warranty wasn't valid. That when they'd canceled out the "extra" policy, they'd canceled out the wrong one. I had the original ESP on the display model, not the one for this one.Ok, at this point I'm more than a little annoyed. You've had it for two months and you're just NOW realizing this? Ok, so they drag the manager over who had resolved the issue originally. He canceled out the wrong ESP and enacted a new one for this laptop. All straight with the warranty now. Out goes the laptop for repair again. Two weeks later I get a call from the service department telling me that my laptop is there but it hasn't been fixed, nor will it be. I ask why. They said that the label on the bottom of the laptop, the one that has the serial number on it, had mysteriously come up missing. Without it, they cannot verify that this laptop is the one with the ESP.At this point, I'm majorly ticked. I drive up there, tell them I need the laptop fixed ASAP, and that I'm even willing to PAY for the repair, just fix the thing. They told me no. They claimed w/o the serial number they couldn't verify that I was the actual owner. It could be stolen.I was irate. Told them they'd had this thing for over 3 months, the sticker was on there when they got it (like they could ever fall off on their own). At any rate, they refused to fix it. So, I demanded a refund for the ESP.Now, keep in mind, the ESP had only been valid for TWO WEEKS because of the prior screw up. The service manager gives me a PRO-RATED refund back SIX MONTHS to when it the laptop was originally purchased. So, I take my still broken laptop back home. It occurs to me that I'd had it for less than a year, so, the original manufacturer's warranty should still be in effect. Called Compaq, they said they'd gladly repair the laptop and gave me a choice of whether I wanted to take it to my local service center, or mail it in.I asked where my closest service center was. Naturally... BEST BUY. I explained that they wouldn't fix it, and why. Compaq informed me that even if true their reason was irrelevant as all Compaq laptops contain a duplicate serial label inside the case. All they would have needed to do was open it.In the end, they paid to have DHL (then Airborne Express) come to my home, pick up the laptop, ship it, fix it, and return it, free of charge.I ended up buying an ESP direct from Compaq, which I did use a couple more times before it received damages they wouldn't cover. That was... nearly 7 years ago, I think. We're still using that laptop, but we haven't been back to Best Buy since other than to price check items which we intend to buy elsewhere.I've used Best Buy ads to get CompUSA to price match sale prices (which they've always gladly done). But, other than to walk in just long enough to verify inventory, I have no desire to ever go there again. As far as I'm concerned, they deliberately removed the label so they wouldn't have to fix the laptop. I'd say they did it because they'd sold it at a discount (they'd matched the display model price originally), but I've heard others with similar stories from things they'd purchased right off the shelf.Aren't you happy you asked? LOL
good Comp USA sucks and needs to be closed. I wish they would shut down the one in Orange, CT not Norwalk though. Route 1 is getting all these great stores and it looks nice as well, but this place is like a bick brick with a shoddy parking lot on the side of the road. It looks abandoned and never open? Not to mention their Customer Service is horrible, I could get more information on a product from my vomit after a night of heavy drinking. And return policies are horrendous! Sorry, but I could care less about this store and cannot wait for it to close its doors!
My Dad had a similar experience with Best Buy when he bought a computer. Their Geek Squad is beyond pathetic. That and they wanted to charge me $40 to replace the power source in my computer. It's a two minute job!!! Hate to see what they would charge for an actual problem.
Quote, originally posted by Whelan »good Comp USA sucks and needs to be closed. Here's the thing, though. Clearly that ugly store that never seems to be open is selling SOMETHING to SOMEBODY, or they WOULD be closed or closing.I also doubt they are stopping any store where you may WANT to buy computer supplies from existing in your area.Besides, customer service pretty much varies from place to place. Mine tends to be pretty good, albeit a little slow at times.
When I worked at the 2 compusa's in MN we had a great store and always got great ratings. sure there were a few employees that sucked but I worked my tail off to make the customers computer repair as quick and painless as possible. Ive had lots of customers write in about their experience with me as a tech and they said all good things. Now every store is different and when I went back there during breaks their service sucked. best buy is no better I cant stand their salesman who know nothing in general and try to push the extended warranties which are usually worthless. If you buy a computer go through the manufacture to get an extended warranty. Specially for laptops, they will have accidental and others PLUS most have world wide warranty repair AND cheaper than the store bought ones.. unlike store bought which only apply to US and their store. Manf. warranty can have it fixed through many diff retailers or certified places.
...And now they're closing the REST of them after this holiday season. I guess the haters got what they wanted. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/...=homeI'll be checking out their everything must go sales. I'd say the remaining stuff will go quick considering the time of year they decided to close down.Bummer. I'm probably one of the few who will actually miss them.

wow. that's a real shame, especially for us up here. we only have CompUSA and BestBuy to compete. Walmart has some items, but not really most of the things that i need.
