I've had my Vibe (base, 5-speed, "sports" and "power" packages) for 7 weeks, and it has developed an awful rattle IN the roof (not the racks). It rattles each time I drive over a bump (crack) in the road. If I either apply pressure up on the ceiling (anywhere along the front, near the sunroof controls), or pull down on the the ceiling, it stops.Does anyone know what's causing this? Many thanks,Vivian in Kingston, Ontario, Canada
quote:Does anyone know what's causing this? The only rattle up there that I noticed (and I noticed you had the moonroof too) was from the moonroof slide cover. It seems that if it is in a certain position while slid open, it will make some rattling noises when going over bumps. If I move it just a little any other way, it goes away. Also could be a loose wire or something under the sunroof controls panel. If that is so, you can see how to take apart that control panel by looking at this post on the following thread:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id ... =3933#3933
Believe it or not, I actually already went up into the roof and removed the console (much to my husband's dismay). It looked like perhaps that round motor-type thingy was actually vibrating against the roof. So, I cut a piece of white Scotch scouring pad and tried to stick it up in behind it to absorb the vibration. Well, it didn't, and when I went back up in there, the pad had disappeared! So somewhere in my roof there's this piece of scouring pad floating around! Hahaha. It's definitely not the sliding cover. I still think it's related to the moonroof motor or something. It's going in for its first oil change tomorrow, so I hope they'll be able to do something with it.

quote:Ummmm...shouldn't you let the dealer repair that, I would think your Vibe is under warranty... Of course! Gotta use that warranty to your advantage! But sometimes going to the dealer is not always an option immediately and sometimes I want to poke around (safely of course!) and see what can be done about the issue at hand. Point in case, the gauge cluster squeak which I remedied myself without having to go to the dealer 15 miles away 4 times..... I have a couple things on my list for the dealer to fix, so I like to go all at once with a couple issues so not to waste my time. I haven't had much good experience with GM Service Dept.'s, but I give them a chance.

First a little background...I told the guy that once, when I had left the moonroof open (tilted), it rained, I closed it, hours later I drove it away. When I turned a corner, water POURED into the car from the left front pillar... right where the felt ceiling joins the hard plastic interior of the pillar. It only happened on the left side, not the right. I mentioned that it looks like there are little drain holes up there, but that somehow, the water didn't drain to where it should have.It turns out that I was right. There is a drain hose which is supposed to be fed down the pillars, and the one on the left was NOT where it was supposed to be, but rather stuck up in the roof, across the top. Consequently, the water did not drain where it was supposed to, AND, there was a metal ring on it somewhere that was vibrating against the roof. THAT was my rattle! So... killed two birds with one stone, and I am happy. So far, so good.

When I turned a corner, water POURED into the car from the left front pillar... This is one of the main reasons I dislike sun/moon roofs. I know modern ones are much better but who knows 5 or 6 years from now how well it will still seal and drain. Plus, at 6' 2", sunroofs cut into my headroom. Granted, this isn't a problem on the Vibe but it's the main reason I didn't buy a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. I couldn't find a Silver, V6, automatic GT without a sunroof and I didn't fit in one with a sunroof. I guess it all works out in the end because I love my Vibe. I just wish it was as fast as the Tiburon (low to mid 15's in the 1/4 mile).Oh well, 17.1 for now. High 16's are just around the corner with the engine broken in and the addition of a cold air intake and free flow filter.
