License Plate?

Post by ScumBum »

First off,i'm new. so hey.Well today i picked up my new tags, and went to go put the one on the front, and realized there aren't any holes pre-drilled. I imagine i'm not the first one to come across this problem.what did everyone else do?do you just make your own holes?colorado law requires both tags.thanks.-Jonny

There is a front license plate bracket that the dealer needs to install. There are two indentations in the bumper that are for the mounts on the bracket. Then the bracket has your holes for your license plate. Due to the shape of the front end, I don't think there would be any way to screw it directly into the holes...you need the bracket.

If both tags are req'd in CO, should it be drilled by the dealer? Both are req'd in CA too and the dealers usually drill the holes.

When I picked up Frosty & Neptune's plates (at the dealer) all they did was screw on the plates, so the brackets were there. Both plates are required here too. I agree...go back to the dealer. And Welcome to the board!

Update:So I called the dealership and they said they didn't have the bracket. But found another dealership that had one. I go there, and pay 50 bucks for it. 50 bucks for a little piece of plastic. And I then ask if they can install it for me cause i didn't want to mess up my pretty new car. And the service tech is looking at it and has no idea how to put it on. So he tells me to go back to my original dealership and they have to put it on for free under my service warrantee. So i head back over there and i'm waiting in the waiting room when the guy comes back in with the piece in his hand. and i'm like "oh god" it doesn't fit or something.he then tells me that i already had the piece in my trunk where the spare tire was and to go return the one i bought.so lesson learned, i got my 50 bucks back, and i finally have license plates on my car.

Wow, they are required by law here in Ohio also and the way I understood it the dealer must supply the bracket for free. The car must meet state law when you take delevery(sp). I am glad you got your $50.00 back.

Glad you got it taken care of and got your money back!Agreed! As said above, the dealer is responsible for turning over to you a road-legal vehicle. That includes installing the front plate bracket, if required by the state. And good thing they found yours, because my understanding is that, where required by law, the dealership is provided the front bracket by GM at no cost.

I just put mine in the passenger section of the winshield. I bought mine in New Mexico, where 2 plates are not required, there for I do not have the holes either. I haven't had a problem with the po po (knocking on wood )
