My luck with my Vibe=Bad luck

Post by DopeVibeGT »

Ok. The Vibe is now 6 months old and has 8100 miles on it. Coming home from NJ last night on the PA turnpike, a small thick carboard(?) barrel with a metal lid/bottom came rolling into my lane. Seeing I was doing 75, there was very little time to react in the night. BOOM! I hit it and pull over to look at the damage. Not too bad, but bad enough. I went today to get an estimate, and it's $712 worth of damage, $366 being for just the tiny piece on the very bottom on the front (Yes, that is a superate part thats glued on), and $30 for the grill. It also popped two of the plastic fastners that hold on one of the splash guards. Good thing is, it didnt smash the condensor or radiator, or anything else. All this after a detailed it and put my badge overlays on. Picture below, and I circle the crack thats in it. I'm having VERY bad luck with my Vibe.

Things could always be worse. You could have lost control or had the metal smash your window and enter the passenger compartment.A friend was driving along the highway and as she passed a transport heard a horrible crash/bang! Couldn't tell what happened at first.Later she noticed her rear view mirror was sitting on the passenger seat, a piece of metal had hit her roofline above the windshield and imbedded itself there knocking the mirror off.Two or three feet over and she would have taken it on the chin. We are just lucky sometimes.

Yeah, but it's still bad luck, whether I was hurt or what. I know the one guy on here has worse luck than me when it comes to things happening to his Vibe. And the title was My luck with the Vibe, not with myself. Guess I'll just keep these things to myself for now on.

Could have been worse, at least you didn't hit an Amish buggy. Still sounds like bad luck to me though, barrels suiciding against your car. Maybe you need to get one of those PA Dutch hex symbols to ward off the evil. Did you put in an insurance claim on it?

Think of it this way...The barrel no doubt suffered more aesthetic damage than your Vibe. You saved someone else from hitting the barrel. Good job! You'd have hit the barrel no matter which car you were driving. It was YOU who took the car there at that time. The Vibe was just serving your wishes. If you hadn't been in your Vibe, you'd still have hit the barrel in whatever other car you were in. If you hitting a barrel is bad luck, then everyone who didn't hit a barrel suffered good luck at that moment. Following the same thought... everytime you think your luck is bad, my luck must be good if I'm not in the same circumstance as you. So if you insist it is bad luck you are suffering, then thank you for my good luck. Keep it up!But it's not luck, good or bad. It's circumstance. You and your Vibe are a victim of circumstance. I'm truthfully sorry it happened to you. May you and your Vibe get well soon!KSNeptune

The turnpike is not an easy drive even without stray barrels. Its narrow, curvey (at least mid state), limited "potty" stops, and underdesigned for the speeds most people are used to driving. During my last road trip a guy in a dually pulling a rather long cargo trailer came out of the Tuscarora tunnel, lost control and did a 180 just seconds in front of me.Since I'm from PA now, I "love" the turnpike because it seems to be mandatory with the natives (just like I "love" chicken-corn-soup) - they "love" their turnpike around here! But everyone else I know who makes the trip seems to be a bundle of nerves after the experience. I'm always glad to be off it and away from the "Cleaned with Lysol" bathrooms. peeeUUUUUUUWWeeee!
