So I'm looking to buy a used '03 Vibe and possibly install the GM supercharger. I understand that it is only for the base (non-GT) engine, but can someone explain why it is advertised to not work with the AWD model? I am under the impression that the engine is exactly the same FWD vs. AWD. I am still doing some research, but it appears that the AWD model has a rear independent suspension instead of the FWD torsion beam setup. I assume that one can tune the AWD model to handle much better and thus be more fun to drive? Adding the s/c would really add to the driving enjoyment I would think. So can the AWD model work with the GM s/c? Or is the increased torque too much for the AWD unit to handle?
first off, welcome to the boardthe supercharger will work with the 03 awd, one of the other members BlueCrush is/was about to the the S/C for his awd vibe. the only thing is that since they only work for the 03/04 yrs for the most part (you could make an adapter plate for the 05+ but thats not an issue for you) so GM discontinued them i believesearch is the best bet for most topics, as long as you phrase the question right. i've had my share of the search not finding stuff
there are a few AWD vibes that did the s/c however, i believe most of them either took it off or had some issues (greenfire comes to mind). yes, definitely look up SEARCH for supercharger + AWD. however, i would venture to steer you over to matrixowners.com as their is a lot more in their forced induction forum than here.welcome!
only issues with a SC AWD had nothing to do with it being AWD. the drive train has held up fine. greenfire ran too lean and screwed his engine up.go ahead and do it!

that was some time ago, i can't remember exactly what had happened. but i know back in 03 when they came out with all the promo info, GM made it sound like the GT was AWD plus 180 hp and 6MT! now that would have been PERFECT!!!!!
The only reason GM/Toyota said the SC isn't compatible with the awd is they didn't want to warranty the powertrain (awd > fwd, as far as parts and $$$). But it has been done, and you're not the first to think of it. Do it!
