03 Vibe GT Front Rotors

Post by Mo411 »

Anyone know the sequence for removing the front rotors. I noticed a 12pt - 30mm axle nut that I also removed but with no sucess on the rotors. The replacement rotors look like they don't need to be secured with this nut. Here is what I tried. - removed 30mm axle nut using 1 3/16 12pt hex - remove two 17mm bolts and swung out and secured caliper - TRIED to remove ROTOR with no sucess anyone know the process .....TYmo411

Must be rusted to the hub because you do not need to remove this nut. Accoridng to the GM service manual. I can fax you the procedure if you want. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle . Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation . Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak. Important: Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Remove the brake caliper and the caliper mounting bracket (14) as an assembly from the suspension knuckle and support the assembly with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent. Verify that there is no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose. Refer to Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement - Front . Use paint in order to mark the position of the brake rotor (5) to the hub (4). Remove the brake rotor. I have not done brakes at all on my Vibe, 45,000 miles and still good!

Soak that sucker (rotor) with plenty of PB Blaster or equivalent. Then get a hammer and start hitting that rotor. If at first the rotor does not come off, get a Bigger Hammer and knock the snot out of that rotor. You WILL persuade it to come off.

Hope you got them off! We make a tool, a hook that screws onto the end of a slide hammer. You then insert the hook into one of the vents on the rotor if the rotors are vented and then use the slide hammer to pull the rotor off. Works well for rusty rotors!
