wont stay on cuz of intake?

Post by pontiacbanshee89 »

hey guys...im new here..but ive been checking this place out since i got my 05 gt, but i ran into a somewhat big problem(at least for me)i bout this sri from http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...32917and i didnt come w/ instructions, so i printed out a k&n typhoon instructions and went that route, well everything seemed fine and dandy until i tried to turn on the car...then it would turn on for a second or two and then shut down,,,tried to double check(cuz the sri was a ripoff of the k&n) it wasnt exactly the same...and i then ended up putting in the original box back again..but it still doesnt want to stay on...what the heck is going on??????

Any chance you damaged the MAF sensor?
YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!

As Raging said, did you disconnect your battery before you removed the maf sensor. That's the black sensor located at the end of the s-tube on the stock air box.Or it could be the way the hoses are routed. What year Vibe do you have?

That makes me think that you ruined the MAF sensor. It isn't functioning and the engine is then running really rich since it can't tell what type of airflow is coming in.

I thought that when it was in limp mode it ran,but not above 3k.But now thinking about it,it would run rich and that would explain the gas smell.I think your right.I hope you still have a warranty, the maf sensor is quit expensive.

The car will not stay on if you have that hose connected. The hose that comes from under the engine cover from the Throttle Bodies, should be capped, as well as the pipe connection on the intake (the stalk where you connect the breather hose.Leave the stock hose on the Throttle body and cap it off. If it is not the car will start and stay running if you rev it, but dies immediately after you let off the gas.

if when you put it back to stock and reinstalled all the hoses to stock location... then you more then likely screwed up the MAF.They are delicate, so easy ways would be handling it rough, dropping it, hitting it, playing with the little senor part, whatever.Search out CAI or intake install and you will find the pics you need. Leave it stock, take it to a shop for proper diagnosis and try again when its running in OEM condition again.Sorry about your luck

Damaged MAF is a big deal, they are expensive parts too. When I did my intake I pulled the whole airbox off with the MAF still on, then left it there until I was ready to put it on the intake pipe at the very end. That way it did not get moves a lot.

Even with a bad MAF the car will start and idle fine. It just will not rev past 2500RPM. As for it not running... check your vac lines and make sure everything is connected. Also a failed MAF will set a code as well so if you have a CEL then that will tell the tale.
